OK Nick how much and where do I pick up from? As for the "Stage One" John, what is the changer? All pull, Push Pull, or Pull Release. Adjustable legs, quick release pedal bar, etc., etc., If so the "Stage One" is as good as a Pro model and yes I'd pay £900 for it. But I'd still prefer a knackered old MSA.

it's a pull release, 4 adjustable legs, wing nut leg release. but the sound is just amazing, stays in tune like no other steel I have had. very light and don't move when playing. it's so good I bought one. I will fit slide leg release when I can find some. I am selling my sho- bud if you know anyone looking for one..

I can't speak for yours John but I had one to work one some time back and it operated thus!

Attached pic of the single action finger!

Making it effectively a ‘push pull’, on the pull of the knee levers traveling right towards the changer the note is tuned sharp and held in position by a spring fixed to the underside of the body, the lever action going right lowers the single changer finger and the spring at the body brings it back to pitch when released! Left levers and pedals all pull!

Thanks Bob, that is how mine works, but I can raise and lower the E's. it's very stable, there's is nothing to mess about which suits me fine. it also has enough pulls to take care of most song's...

VERY SIMPLE, IF YOU THINK IT'S TOO EXPENSIVE, DON'T BUY IT, AND TELL THE SELLER WHY.

So from where we left off, Donny your right (if you think it's too expensive don't buy it.) The way I see it,it's no wonder young people are not interested in steel guitar looking at the money some people are asking for used guitars. On gumtree recently there has been a couple of Carter starters for £900 and a Zum Stage One for £925 with 3+3. I don't know about the Zum but it seems to me 900 quid for a used Carter Starter is a bit OTT, I sold mine for £500 which I thought was a fair price. I see now there is an MSA on Ebay and the guy says he will not take less than £1250 for it. I sold that guitar not many months ago (due to financial problems) for £700. Not to the guy that's selling it now. For that MSA semi classic even with the extra pedal and knee levers I put on is worth £800 tops. It sometimes makes you wonder whether people are in it just for the money. I wonder how long it will be before the Sho-Bud John Roche has just sold for a Grand will be up for sale at £1500????????? These are after all second hand, many of them not in very good condition and many of them no where near what you would call a classic instrument and definitely not vintage. Makes you wonder whether it's time to call it a day?

Dave the zum are sold by gerry hogan at £1399.00 and the bud i sold won't be up for sale by the owner anytime soon , he emailed me sayingitwas the sweetest sounding steel he has ever heard. i thought the same but the back has other ideas. i would go for the zum at that price. i paid £1,150.00 for mine and it was well worth it as it is a good sounding and stay in tune as well as sustaining for ever. even when not plugged in it is loud.

This is an example of what I am talking about. Alan Cook is selling a Sho-Bud D12 and is prepared to accept £1600. I wish I had £1600. A lovely instrument at what I consider a very fair price. Compare that with £1250 for an MSA S10 semi classic, sorry doesn't add up.

Hey. Slow down. I bought Johns Sho Bud and its going nowhere. Its a beautiful guitar and now that I've set the levers the way I want them I'm keeping it. The only way this will be sold is when the family clear my estate after I'm gone and I hope that's way off yet. I have to agree though that some prices are way over and it does tend to put the younger players off.

It was a pleasure to meet John and I saw the look on his face when I loaded it into the car. It said it all - he was losing a good friend and I guess how he felt. I'm certainly not going to let him down by selling on - and I shall cherish this guitar.

Now then I do have a ZB Student that I could possibly sell at a reasonable price 3 + 4, Mind you they are not comfortable to play.
ShoBud 6139 - Remington Steelmaster - George Boards 8 String - Gretsch Country Gent - National Twin 8 Console x 2 - National New Yorker and a shed full of guitars.
