As I still have this beautiful little guitar I am going to send it up to Ronnie Bennett to get a 4th Teardrop knee lever fitted ,,,,, when it comes back it will be Gordon Huntley/Jimmy Day set up and I might not want to part with it,,,,,, but if I do, it will cost a hundred quid more ...............

With all due respect, to constantly refer to the Day setup as the Huntley/Day setup causes added confusion to an already confusing instrument.

The majority of pedal steel players don't live in the UK, have never heard of Gordon Huntley, and they call the two slightly different configurations 'the Emmons setup', and 'the Day setup', after the US pedal steel pioneers.

I think it makes sense to go along with the majority, so that everyone is singing off the same hymn sheet

I can see where Richard is coming from,but also sense JD,s liking for Gordon Huntley. Is this the start of an argument ?? Regards Graham

With mutual respect Richard, I regard Gordon as much as a steel Pioneer as any of them and I can tell you that when he built his first steel he did`ent copy anyone as at that time he had not seen one close up and he just built a guitar to play the changes he could hear listening to the radio, it was pure chance his pedal set up was the same as Jimmy Day and I am sure that had he realised Emmons peddled the other way around a lot more Brit players would be playing “Emmons”.
I don`t know what lever configuration Jimmy Day used but yes, floor pedals the same
So when I say Huntley /Day set up I have covered both bases and given both men the respect I believe they deserve as my knee levers are the same as Gordon used.
Don`t much care if I confuse any of our USA friends as this is the British Steelies site if they don`t know about Gordon (and I know a lot that do) then that’s their loss and I am not prepared to let our steel heritage go down the tubes without a fight,
