Telonics Speakers - In Stock

3) Nashville 112 Installation
Just fitted the Telonics TSNEO-12-4 into a 112 - The speaker is fixed from the rear; to remove the old speaker you will need to remove the back panel and probably the reverb bag. It might be possible to fit the speaker without removing the reverb, but for just two screws it makes access to the speaker fixing nuts much easier, and when fitting the new speaker this might be essential (if you have a stud issue - explained later). Although we didn't do it, it might be an idea to remove the chassis, it makes access to the top fixing nut far easier. Remove the speaker connections - note Yellow is +ve and blue is -ve. Having removed all the nuts the speaker was still fixed solid to the front baffle - I'm guessing the paint wasn't completely cured when the speaker was fitted at Peavey. Carefully prize off the old speaker - the old speaker gasket will probably be stuck in parts to the baffle; remove all traces of the old gasket with a sharp knife. I'd suggest you get a vacuum out to suck away any debris before fitting the new speaker. Carefully lower the new speaker onto the studs, with the speaker connections pointing to the chassis; make sure you get it perfectly lined up before lowering or you could put a hole in the cone. We had a slight issue here - the fixing rim of the Telonics speaker basket is much thicker than the stock speaker, this means the Peavey fixing studs are only just long enough. Because one of the fixing studs wasn't quite pulled into poistion, at first we couldn't get the nut to pick up the thread - eventually we managed to fix this - it is important to ensure all the nuts are fitted. Important - The nuts were tightened using the previously described sequence. The stock speaker connections are fastons, these need to be removed and about 7mm of wire stripped. Cut the wire as close to the fastons as possible - they don't give you much spare wire! Connect the wires to the speaker - Yellow wire to +ve (Red terminal) and the Blue wire to the -ve (Black terminal) - Note you just push on the top and this opens up a hole in the side. Refit the chassis, reverb bag and back panel - job done!

Testing - This isn't a heavy amp with the stock speaker, but the Telonics speaker makes it even lighter. We tested the amp before and after fitting the speaker... Wow! Of all the amps and cabs so far this is the probably the most noticeable upgrade. The stock speaker isn't bad, but the Telonics speaker in my opinion is clearly a superior tone, right across the frequency range - I couldn't believe how well it handled the low C6 notes... I can't wait to try a 12" in a Cube...

I fitted my speaker tonight.

Great lows, clean highs that don't cut your ears off, and lots louder as I removed an 8 ohm from the Evans cab..

And as light as a feather, well, almost!

The Steel King manual suggests the speaker is 4 Ohm, so the Telonics TSNEO-15-4 should be an ideal replacement. The cost of the TSNEO-15-4 is £213.00 plus postage. Hello friends across the pond - yes, I am currently using the Telonics speakers in all Milkman steel amplifiers! They are a very detailed and wonderful sounding speaker that compliments the sound of the steel guitar very well. When Dave Beaty announced them on the steel forum I had a "prayers answered" reaction - finally a high quality neo magnet speaker that was specifically voiced for pedal steel.

More good news is that they sound great with 6 string guitar as well.

I can't say enough good things about them and the Telonics team in general.

4) Roland Cube installation
Fitted a Telonics TSNEO-12-4 in a Roland Cube yesterday - The speaker is fixed from the front; to remove the old speaker - remove the 4 screws holding the grill on and then remove the speaker fixing screws. Carefully lift up the edge of the old speaker and remove the attached wires - Note, in addition to the normal speaker connections there is also an earth wire on the basket that needs to be removed - remove the speaker. The stock speaker connections are fastons, these need to be removed and about 7mm of wire stripped. Cut the wire as close to the fastons as possible - they don't give you much spare wire! Lay the Telonics speaker in place, lift up the edge of the speaker, reattach the earth wire onto the basket (You may need to scrape the paint on the basket to get a connection) and then attach the normal speaker wires - Red wire to +ve (Red terminal) and the Black wire to the -ve (Black terminal) - Note you just push on the top and this opens up a hole in the side. Insert the speaker fixing screws; note ensure all the screws are fitted. Important - Tightened the screws using the previously described sequence.. Refit the grill.

The speaker we removed from this amp wasn't the stock speaker, so we weren't able to do a before and after test. However, we were able to do a side by side comparison with another Cube fitted with a JBL E120 - The big difference was the weight... those E120's are heavy! Since the Telonics speaker is designed to sound like a JBL K120, and the JBL E120 is a very similar speaker, as expected the general tone was very similar. The Telonics speaker was slightly louder being a 4 ohm unit.

I didn't have a chance to play steel myself through the amp, but John's tone sounded real nice - You have to hand it to Roland, a great little amp.

It would be interesting to see if the Telonics speaker could be rear mounted - this might further improve the tone.

Fitted Telonics 12" speaker today to my bog standard Nashville 112. Sweeter top end, more bottom end ( had to back off the low end! ) greater separation of strings. Marvel speaker up for sale!!!!
