Hi Dave why does it have to be a 15inch? the Roland xl 80 has only a 12 inch and they sound great, I have a 12 inch 4ohm Black Widow in a cab I used to use with a Peavey amp head that sounds great with steel and guitar.
I also got a 15 inch EV speaker in a cab this also is a good sounding cab for steel bit tatty but speaker good.

Have you ever tried the Yamaha G100 1/12 combo? they are superb steel amps I also got one of these.

PM if interested.

Hi Jim

I have a cube 80x and agree it is the best sounding amp I have used. I also love the Yamaha amps and have a 50w 1-12 one which sounds fab too. They made some 100w 1-15's which I think would be cool. I'm after a 'bigger', but not louder sound. I have an old Nashville 400 I got off you, but have never really taken to it. Maybe I didn't set it up right, but it always sounded 'boxy' to my ears.

However I am an ampaholic, and have just bought a Randall 200w solid state 115 which sounds great (only used it at home so far) but am interested in finding out about the best modern speakers for steel. Nothing wrong with the Randall speaker but I am curios! Eminence have an EPS15C which sounds promising.

I'd be interested in that EV cab...could use it as an extension cab with the cube.

When are you going to move back here?

Dave

Thanks to John for pointing out this post; I missed it.

I'm in the process of importing some Telonics speakers, they should be with me in a week or two. If you don't know about these - In the 60's and 70's the JBL D120 and D130 were extensively use for recording; they were just a great sounding speaker. Using modern materials Telonics have developed a speaker which has a curve very close to that of the old JBL. I tried a prototype in March and production units are now available. I have ordered both 12" and 15" speakers; the 12" version should be ideal for a Cube upgrade. I'll post more info later.

Here's a link to the TPA site: http://www.tpa-az.com/page11.htm

They'll be priced around £200.00.

Dave save yourself some cash and a lot of weight, try a Sica 15inch neo speaker as recommended and fitted in his custom amps by Ken Fox electronic guru from the States.I use the 12inch version which I ordered from Hot Rox Nottingham.I find it sounds as good as any I have used in past (BW, EV, etc etc) and I don't break my back lifting the cab.I've got to admit I was sceptical when getting it, but it has proved to be a first class purchase. :guitar:

I've known lots of speakers to fail, my Sica is two years old and working well, perhaps if I had sponsorship from a speaker company I would go with them.
