Mellow Greetings Steelies.
I am a 62 year old Glaswegian. I have been playing fretted instruments since I was 13 years old. In my time, Guitar (1st instrument), Sitar, Banjo (5 string and Tenor), Mandolin, Bouzouki. Shit, I even had a fiddle for a while.
Arthritis in Left Hand put paid to that!! Fortunately, Right Hand (Pickin' Hand) is OK.
Been aspiring to play Lap Steel for the last 4 years or so. Bought instruments etc., never got round to it.
Bought a GoldTone Weissenborn last March. Took a while to get it fettled in terms of tuning and string gauges. Finally settled on High G-Dobro tuning. Never looked back. It's a great guitar. Crap machine heads and bridge pins and a little heavy on the nitro-cellulose but a decent starter guitar.
I also have a Recording King Squareneck Mahogany Spider Bridge Single Cone. Ok, so you won't see Jerry Douglas playing one but it's a really decent budget instrument. On the strength of that, I bought one of their Metal-Bodied Tricones. The quality of these and the finish is top notch.
I have an 8 string electric of unknown provenance. I tune this to G6/Emin7. Also a Harley Benton Slider tuned the same. It's surprisingly good- has a really nice Humbucker.
Have recently acquired an Oahu Tonemaster with Stringtone Tuning Changer. Very happy with that.
Play the electrics through an Origin Effects Slide Rig, Ernie Ball Volume Pedal and Fender Blues Junior( Mexican made but had a complete Frommel upgrade and new tubes).
Oh and my name is Michael.
