Hello all!
Just thought I'd say hi before I bother you with loads of (to you) tedious questions!
My name's Geoff from Margate and I currently have a Stage One on order from Doug Earnest. I mucked about with a very old, very basic unbranded student model that I picked up from Freeads for about 50 quid a few years ago but didn't really stick with it, probably to do with lack of inspiration from the sound and playability of said steel. This time I plan to do different!
As per the title, I've never really been into country (heresy?!!) but have always deeply loved the sound of the steel that I heard in the country-tinged, and other, music that I was into. It's something I always I wanted to get but they always seemed so hard to find/expensive, but now I've decided to afford it and am going to go for it. I also play guitar, keys, elec/double bass, electronics etc although am kinda a jack of all but certainly master of none! For example, I mainly only use the guitar with a load of effects to create ambient washes and atmostpheres - i don't really have any 'chops'. However, I realise that the steel is gonna take a whole lot more dedication for me to get it to sound anywhere close to good!
While I'm here, to save starting another thread, has anyone got any recommendations for good volume and reverb pedals? I've heard nowt but good things about the (now "vintage") Boss RV-2 reverb. I also have another thread somewhere about recommendations for a good valve amp that's smaller (lighter!) than a Twin Reverb.
Cheers then. Look forward to chatting with you guys and learning from you all!
