Some advice needed....

Postby ryev » Fri Jan 11, 2013 2:45 pm

Fellow steelies.
Being relatively new to this steel malarkey I just have a few questions and would appreciate any advice if at all possible. After many months of searching i managed to locate a gorgeous red MSA steel – 3 pedals 3 knees, tip-top condition for a very reasonable price and suffice to say I am enjoying it immensely. ( I’ll attach some pictures if I figure out how to ) However, currently the C pedals is out of action – I have the rod and tracked down one of the tiny bushings that was missing but the problem seems to be that when I attach the rod and the bushing and depress the lever it moves the A pedal down and also the far-right knee lever. I just need some advice on how to attach it properly and get it up and running cause I feel like I am missing out on some important changes. I think it is something to do with loosening some bushings and tightening others but I don’t want to get into guesswork...obviously. I hope I have explained this correctly. Can anyone advise me on this or should I take it to someone who knows what they are doing? If the latter – is there anyone you know of who operates in the West Midlands as I live in Coventry?

I was told by John of St. Neots who I bought it off that it was a proto-type model from the 70’s that didn’t go into production. Just wondered if there was any more information on it as there doesn’t seem to be any info on the web and I haven’t seen another one like it. Just a shot in the dark – but does anyone know this guy as I have lost his email address and really want to tell him how pleased I actually am with it.

Sorry If this has been a bit rambling or win the wrong section and hope that someone out there can help me.

Regards

Hi Ryan, My name is John Davis and I live in St.Neots but you did`ent buy the guitar from me....... if its the one I think it is,,, you would have bought it from Paul who also lives in St,Neots and as I understand it he has gone over to lap steel and given up on playing pedals.......
My advice would be to contact Ronnie Bennett, he lives in the Wirrel and I am sure he could help you with it, he has done some great work on my guitar....
Don`t have his number to hand at the moment as I am not at home but can post it later..... ;)

You need to learn how to put photos on here, then we could see what's happening and advise you accordingly

Thanks John, yeah his name was Paul, I remember now. Jason, I live in Coventry, West Midlands like I said in the message. I'll put some photos when I get time and that should hopefully shed some light on the situation. It seems to me like it should be a simple fix, which its why its so frustrating.

Whilst I think of it, is your far right knee lever What we would call the F lever? i.e., the one that raises strings 4 and 8 a whole step?

Well Jason, that question is a real puzzle and no mistake!

The F lever only raises strings 4 & 8 a semitone (half step) - that's why it's called the "F" lever ain't it?
