Importing Steel Guitars From USA .......

Postby Ted Nesbitt » Mon Sep 17, 2012 6:56 pm

How many times have you seen this quote on "The Steel Guitar Forum" ........
No International shipping ....... Shipping to lower 48 only...... Some of these sellers wont even
ship to Alaska ... one of there own states! I think its really sad that a lot of our American cousins treat
oversees buyers in that way. Their excuse is .... To much hassle with customs ..... Customs only get involved
at the port of entry in the country of destination. Its the buyer who has to deal with import taxes and duties.
Another story is ...... Too much paperwork ....... Not so .....All they ask you to declare on the shipping document is...
Shipper of goods ..... Receiver of goods ..... Value of goods and weight...... Country od Destination.
Shipping a steel guitar from Orlando Florida to Leeds UK, is no different than shipping a guitar from Orlando to New York.
Im sure a lot of you guys have had this experience. If someone in the USA has a steel guitar that you really want to buy, I would recommend that you call them first.

I've seen this on several adverts. On the other hand, I bought a Stage One from Doug Earnest who was only too happy to send it to me in Wales. My main concern is when I come to upgrade I won't be able to try out some of the more modern steels unless I can find them in the UK. I could try to arrange a visit to the US to coincide with a steel show and buy something there and then. I guess that would also get round the reluctance of US steel builders to ship outside the US.

it is not only private sellers, twice I tried to buy an item from a well known steel outlet, only to be told Firstly it was too expensive- I pointed out I was paying not them, and I was happy to do so, They then changed tune and said it was too much hassle - I pointed out it only took an extra sixty seconds to fill in customs form- they still wouldn't send it .Needless to say I don't deal with them now.Same store didn't even reply to a friend of mine who made a serious enquiry about buying a new steel.I exported a steel to japan, various items to Europe no problem and no hassle.Should also add, great service from the guys at Mullen, Peterson, Hilton,Al Brisco, all shipped no problem.

Well Ted you & i have been through the mill quite a few times concerning this phenomena have'nt we ?
many yanks consider the old countries as if they were the west african frontier
just to have a laugh an american artist came over here & we did a 2 week tour
question 1 : how come folks here hang their wash out the window - don't they have dryers ?
answer : nope ! don't need'em.....
question 2 : how come it's so cold in here - don't these folks got heaters ?
answer : nope, don't need 'em - it's the old country
question 3 ( in france ) : you mean i gotta crap in there ? don't they have real toilets ?
nope : it'a turkish loo
question 4 ( in spain) what's that ?
answer : ham
that ain't no ham - ham is pink & comes in a can ( tin 4 y'all)
reply : it's just the shank off of bigfoot , bone & all
yeah yeah yeah i'm a yank too & i love 'em but heck can't help but have a laugh

anyway, i' resolved this problem : if it's a steel that's the "1" desired, i have it shipped to my buddies in the USA & they ship it over the water
it does cost a wee bit more though ( fer my buddies the jocks )
otherwise, as some know, one man's loss, is another man's gain
there's always good steels available by sensible & reasonable vendors or fo'bros

ps : i wish to thank the admin & the members here for not taking down me "unpolitically correct " gollie like
bleedin' 'ell, b0b got complaints & he was taken down in less that a week

To be honest, the gollie doll is one of those borderline things and if a complaint were made, I think we would have to remove it.

How sad things have become. Would anyone complain if it had a white face? Of course not.

There seems to be a breed of idiots who think that people to be ashamed of being black, so they mustn't be reminded of it.

We can laugh at ourselves and so can most black people, it's just the racists who call themselves politically correct who are stifling our freedom.

Blimey, my serious head must be out on good behaviour. - Can't have that......

Jason, the topic evolves as it goes on. It can easily be turned back to the original subject, but with nobody posting much on this Forum lately, anything is better than nothing.
