Here's something that may be of interest, thou it's taken me a while to sus it out.
I work with an American singer guitarist, been together for a while now, and at this time we have 9 mini disc's of music right throu from Hank Williams to Garth Brooks, and cover most styles of country, including Rockabilly, and Western Swing.
Weather you like working with backing tracks or no, some of us don't have a choice if we want to keep playing.
Each time we work together we play mostly the same tracks, but the interesting thing is, and this goes for new players, intermediate, or advanced players, you know where the breaks are, and where you need to input, the advantage is, each time you input it can be as different as you want it too, so you never need to play the same rift, you are learning new rifts every time you work, and sometimes I supprise myself with what I come up with, and my friend is saying to me, bloody hell, that was a great bit you played there, but at my age, it's remembering what I did.
The outcome is, it's just like a practice session, and the learning curve is excelent, and pushes you to trying thing's you normaly would'nt try, and the singer's not bothered as it makes him or her sound better, and makes you tighter.
I know most band's would'nt want you to do that sort of thing, they want it the same every time, but with a duo, let it all hang out, and you'll be supprised how fast you come on with yous style, picking and feel.
By the way, I got my Super Pro back, and the feeling has never been better.
