Marc, it is my personal opinion that it was wrong to "lock" these items , but do accept your or Bob's decision was made in good faith and you may have information not available to me, I am aware of several other members who also think the decision was wrong, so I am not the only one with this view.When you say that nothing was removed why could I find no trace of any of the events? as pointed out by David also, my understanding of locked is that the thread remains visible but cannot be accessed for further comment .Anyway this is water under the bridge and I merely answered David's perfectly reasonable question.

Malcolm, I consider Ken a dear personal friend, such a gracious and knowledgeable man who I hold in great esteem and whose presence here I, nae (we,) will greatly miss. however it is our duty to the community to move on. For reasons of integrity and respect I alone took the decision to lock the post. I have reflected on that decision and have no reason to believe it was the wrong action to take.

I may post something of a statement on my position on the site tomorrow, it is drafted, but I will sleep on it first as is my want!

Your understanding is correct. The original thread is in the "Welcome and Hello New Members" forum, still fairly close to the top. The second locked topic is in the "Steel Players" forum and is about a dozen or so from the top. They have never been removed and your earlier comment that "all reference to this event had been removed" is incorrect, which is why I felt the need to post in this thread.

Edited to add: On the subject of the original post of this thread, you might find it interesting that there are another 30% of posts (i.e. 3,000+) sent as private messages via the forum - so it's not always as quiet as it sometimes seems

Thanks Marc, I will check that out, I do tend to use pm's quite a bit so was aware of the amount of extra traffic that goes on.
