Just looking in,[which is not often now] and noticed this thread, and getting back to Billy's original point, and in particular, lack of real topic, i couldn't help but notice, re the much lauded Roland 80xl, i counted seven brits [ all living in England] openly discussing the merits of this amp on one thread, all very positive and interesting stuff.................. unfortunately, it was not on the BSS............... it was on the US Forum ! what a pity this couldnt have been discussed this forum, Billy, nobody has done more than you to try and generate new interesting posts, but , apart from just a few replies, from the same old few, they get met with the usual apathy, thats why Dave cant be 'arsed' any more, and why i stopped posting regulary, and certainly the reason 'OUR' Steelies are discussing the Roland on the U.S. Forum, its true, the 'for sale ' section is the most used section, thats ok, no surprises there, but its closely followed by copious amounts of totally boring 'happy birthday' posts, and the 'stupid jokes' thread, hardly any discussion on PSG, ok, back to the crypt for me, :ugeek: :ugeek:

Eddie, Glad to hear that you still look in, that 'last post' of yours was a bit disappointing at least to me, sad that after all your input no one else responded to it, I guess that says it all. The site now is what it is, nothing is going to change 370+ ?? something members 360+ of em have no interest in the BSS site other than selling items, themselves or get togethers, I repeat- 'no probs with that' perhaps they should rename the site The Britishe Steelies Want and Sales Site. Sad hey?

Having said that, a guy from Ireland bob1 has recently got hold of a steel in need of refurbing, lots of usefull advice is being given to him from Tony Russel Davies and others, so not all bad.

Looks like the Scots lads have the right idea, start some meets and chat things of interest to steelies ( Hang on! wasn't that what used to happen here?)

Keep in touch Eddie
Dave.

Eddie, just checked in after a busy weekend at the Americana SummerTyne Festival, sadly I think our band was the only one with steel, good to see you are keeping your eye on us.I am in regular touch with a couple of the guys up here but trying to organise a meeting is probably not going to happen. With some of our guys being about 4 hours away up north it is practically impossible to get a time and date that suits everyone, but we do speak regularly on the phone, and the good thing is if anyone of us have a problem the rest are there to help out in anyway they can , so in someways the forum spirit is alive. It is a pity that the meetings down south are so far away both in time and cost of travel otherwise I believe a few of us might venture down, but alas in this dire financial time I don't think that will happen either.Keep popping in .regards Malcolm

I wonder how many of the "Glasgow based" Steelies would be interested, if we could start something on a once a month, or even a bi- monthly basis, bring your own set up, backing tracks, or just play. You never know it could be fun.

IMHO the lack of input is because a lot of the threads start off with a good subject then quickly develop into personal banter between old mates. 'nice to see you last week...give my regards to so and so' etc. I suspect a lot of relative newbies feel excluded from what can sometimes appear to be an 'old boy's network'.

Jimmy Gibson has recently started a couple of interesting threads which are about steel guitars and amps, since Billy's 'has anyone noticed' thread, and they have been refreshing. I love this forum and will endeavour to contribute more to it in the future. Incidentally, can anyone tell me why Ken Byng left? I never really understood what happened there.

David, seriously I had missed all this and had to phone a few members as all reference to this event had been removed.I have to say that I don't personally think the threads should have been removed, but I'm not one of the "management crew" and they obviously had their reasons for doing it.I've also got to disagree with your views, I believe the comments between "older members" makes it seem a less formal place and should encourage newer members to join in, we welcome them with open arms.Malcolm

Posts are removed only in extreme circumstances, i.e. potentially illegal / libelous content, or containing offensive material.

I've just looked at the moderator log for the time period in question, and no posts were removed. 2 topics were locked, that's all.

I personally think it was the correct call to lock these topics. After someone has publically stated they are leaving the forum, I don't think it's fair to then continue with a discussion, or refer to them, when they cannot reply without doing a u-turn. Of course Ken is sadly missed, he was a great contributor to the forum and I also hope he returns but that's his decision and must be respected.
