suspicious ad?

Postby Shindigman » Mon Apr 16, 2012 1:02 pm

Hi All,
I contacted an advertiser on Gumtree Nottingham about a Mullen S-10 for sale, the description said RED the pic's showed a BLACK S10
I emailed for an explanation
reply - it is black. sorry for the typo
I the googled for some info on this S10 and found- pictures have been used from an ebay ad in USA http://www.ebay.com/itm/Mullen-S-10-Bla ... 7683564416
when I asked for pic's of the actual guitar on offer the ad seems to have disappeared
see this link I saved - http://www.gumtree.com/p/for-sale/mulle ... r/99094248
seems a bit suspicious to me?????

John

Should have asked if you could come and try it out.

Thats interesting, and very helpful, as I have been playing email tennis about a Sho-Bud advertised in Nottingham which, on enquiry resulted in an address in Glasgow. I could not get the (supposed) seller to contact me by phone, and Google showed the address as being an appartment above a boarded up taxi office. Like one of the members said, "a long way to go and get robbed. I would be suspicious of Gumtree. Buyer Beware.

Maybe we should have a thread for warnings about these? The same thing happens with many high value items, guitars included. eBay used to be more of a target, but the crooks seem to have cottoned on to Gumtree recently. Photos are lifted straight from the original eBay/Gumtree, often USA, listing in the hope that UK buyers won't have seen them - but we DO don't we???? Keep it up friends.
