Yep Richard, isnt that strange, perhaps he thought a steel guitar, few leads, passive vol pedal and an amplifier would be ok, I bet thats why he has never really cut it One of UKs best, the lad could hold his own with anyone.

Yes Slim, good old Al. He is a regular in the audience at a country music club in High Wycombe these days. I played there one night a couple of years ago, and sat at his table where he and his wife were sitting. I didn't remember him at first, and he mentioned that he used to play years ago. Poor guy has lost all of his teeth, so he is quite gummy. I actually remembered his wife first as she is quite memorable for not being the shy and retiring type. Then the penny dropped. After all it must have been 30 years since we'd last seen each other.

Al got up and did a few numbers with us and still has the voice. His brother Mal died a few years back. They had a good act, and Gerry was the icing on the cake in their band.

Al told me a great story that night. Hal Rugg was over here at one of Gerry's steel weekends in Newbury. Gerry took him over to Al's house to meet him. Al was sitting in the lounge relaxing with his feet in a bowl of water. Hal took one look at this and turned to Gerry and said "How quaint!!"
