Pedal/Lapsteel player wanted - Bristol

Postby FileUnderMforMusic » Mon Jan 20, 2025 11:17 pm

Hello.

I'm trying to put together an instrumental Western Swing-ish ensemble.

The aim would be to get enough material together for 2 x 45mins set.
Based in Bristol. Currently rehearsing as a duo (Telecaster, and Acoustic Guitar), and hoping to find at least Steel, and Bass; possibly drums and additional guitar.

Material so far includes music by Jimmy Bryant & Speedy West, Jimmy Rivers, Les Paul, Jim Campilongo (and Honeyfingers), with more on our 'to learn' list.

To give a rough idea of what we're up to there are some rehearsal videos here -
A Smooth One • Charlie Christian à la Jimmie Rivers - https://youtu.be/yQ3CYHubC5Q
How High the Moon • Nancy Hamilton & Morgan Lewis, à la Les Paul and Mary Ford - https://youtu.be/xSXuPB2sNLw
Freaky Dreiky • Jim Campilongo - https://youtu.be/U-zt4FVRrBU

This is not music we've grown up playing. This ensemble is a means of exploring and enjoying some of the vocabulary of this music.
Ideally you'll be a steel player in the same boat, or a player with more knowledge of this music, willing to let us benefit from your experience!

Any interest, feedback, or suggestions, would love to hear from you.

Cheers,

George

Thanks, John.
Have just had a look at your website, and listened to some footage of you on YouTube; how lucky we would be to play with you!
If you know anyone in this part of the world, please point them in our direction.

All the best, George.

Not much going on around here George no western swing nobody has heard of Bobby Flores around here, I would have loved to have played with The Yellow Rose Band but last time I saw them there was 3 on that stage and all could play a lot better steel than me
