Cheers for the info Dave. Denmark street now can be a bit like a car showroom for guitars. Some of the stores are okay, at one point half the street was owned by the same guy I think!

It is great with the people I live with, there are five if us and we all play various instruments, playing with those guys; even this early on is invaluable. Playing with others forces me to learn and get better.

I will keep at it, dont worry, I am already enjoying it a lot; it is quite addictive! And I will keep you informed.

Your right about not being able to try one out, I live in London and even the mighty Denmark street shys away from the pedal steel. Only one shop I visited had a secondhand steel in stock.

I hate looking back retrospectively as I like to always look ahead. However, this will show you what life what like in the UK in the 70's & early 80's. Steel guitar was King in those days, and the players revered somewhat as masters of this mysical and mythical instrument. The advent of the synthesizer killed the large scale interest in pedaL steel by young musicians.

im 50 this year, and i dont think i have really got started with my steel playing, never like my tone, even when the clients love it, always looking for more depth or low end, or sweeter singing hi s, more strings mre levers and pedals, less wieght , bothe steel and me, and always looking for the next session.
I have sorted my hands problem, and i want to get out and do more live shows from this winter onwards, i just seem to get studio work,
Im putting together a band called the Doubting Thomas s, and im writing songs for this project, the style is Gospel for non belivers. with an electric flavour and there will be a lot of steel, and i hope at least 3 gret harmony singers.
