B6 Tuning

Postby Gary James Peters » Thu Dec 07, 2023 3:42 pm

Hi All

I usually avoid resorting to the signature B6 (C6) sound on my universal steel, partly because I bought this steel precisely to avoid thinking in the dualistic (and to me outmoded) 'country'/ 'jazz' divide, and secondly because (to be honest) I'm not even all that keen on the classic C6 sound, even at the hands of the best like Emmons et. al. All of that said though, I kind of fell into on this track and it kinda works...see what you think. Be warned though: it ain't jazz!!!

Nice Gary, I actually started snapping my fingers about halfway through. It does have a jazz feel about it and you know what they say, anything goes in jazz.

Or to quote Frank Zappa, "Jazz ain't dead, it just smells funny"

Thanks guys...appreciate it!

Little known fact: I did three Jazz Club gigs in the late 70s early 80s. The recordings of these live performances are being released early next year as part of a 2-CD set on the Jazz in Britain label. It was presented by Peter Clayton back then. The band was the legendary Stinky Winkles, "Young Jazz Musicians of the Year" 1979. We didn't play jazz either!!!
