An abundance of resonators on UK daytime TV

Postby saddletramp » Sat Oct 29, 2022 3:12 pm

Since assuming a much greater role as a carer at home earlier this year, I have been exposed  to many of the UK's daytime TV offerings. I am surprised by the number of programmes that use background music featuring resonators, aka dobros. I am curious now to know who is providing this music and why it so prominent. Who is getting all this session work? I am intrigued. It must be more lucrative than finding cash in the attic, putting your home under a hammer or taking part in a bargain hunt for antiques. Has anybody else noticed this or am I going bonkers from not getting out enough?

Hi Chris,
I would've thought these programmes use library music, rather than shell out for session players, and I bet they're picking resonator tracks for their warm and homely character.
I would say that I'll check them out, but my life's too short
GFI Ultra keyless S10 4+5 Emmon's setup + Sigler, Li'l Izzy, Hilton volume pedal, Roland Cube 80gx, Joyo American Sound Pre-amp, Behringer VD400 Delay Pedal, Peterson Strobo Plus HD and a brace of bars, Ben's, Ezzee-Slide, Pearse, BJS, SIT nickel strings.

Chris,
I understand that BJ Cole has done certain sessions for the Beeb in the pass.

I resemble that remark  Danny. Unfortunately I don't have much choice atm :(

You're probably right about the library. I wonder who decides to use the bluegrass tunes.

Hopefully, it's our infiltrating 'man on the inside', or somebody with taste!
