I've just finished reading Robbie Kriegers book, (guitarist with the Doors, really interesting read), and was looking for another book to read when I saw your post Roy and thought here's my next book. My problem is that I read all my books on Kindle these days and it wasn't available for Kindle, seemed like you could only get it as a real book. I currently get a lot of pain in my arms so holding a heavy book to read is not ideal.

However, after a bit of googling I found it in electronic format in Google books, available in the Google Play Store. Only problem is that it was not portable to Kindle, you can only read it in either a Google browser or using Adobe Digital Editions. As it is DRM protected, it was not possible to convert it into a format compatible with Kindle, i.e. Mobi.

Fortunately there are ways around this, first off the DRM protection needs to be removed then it can be converted into a Mobi format. After an afternoon of trying different ways to do this I found a method which works and can now read it on my Kindle.

I don't feel guilty about doing this as I paid for the book legitimately and I think it is ridiculous that you can't read an electronic book with whatever hardware you prefer, be it Kindle, Tablet, PC, Mac etc.

Anyway, thanks for bringing this book to our attention Roy, I started reading it yesterday and looks like it's going to be an interesting read indeed. From the introduction it seems that Buddy had difficulty handling remembering his life story and he cancelled and restarted the project on a few occasions, so we're lucky that this book exists.

For me as well as giving an insight into someone I consider to be a musical genius, it will give me a history of the development of the pedal steel guitar, the country/swing scene and the people involved, having come from a more blues/rock background.

I wasn't sure if he had difficulty remembering or just found the process of writing too painful – due to uncomfortable memories or just blank page syndrome. Either way I was stunned to read early on that he literally decided to play steel guitar on a coin flip! Imagine how different things might be... for all of us... Talk about luck...

I got the impression that it was uncomfortable memories that were too painful for him to remember and were causing him too much distress to continue but it was probably a combination of what you said.

A flip of a coin, must have been fate, thankfully for us all it worked out the way it did

What a great read, really recommend this book if you are an Emmons fan.

That's weird, I searched for it on Amazon and it never came up, I did exactly the same search the now and up it pops first in the list. It was put up for sale on Amazon on 6th Sept 2022, so I'm presuming it took a while to filter through, either that or chemo brain strikes again

Anyway, that's good news, thoroughly enjoying reading it, well worth the purchase.

I'm off to read a bit more the now.
