Here's a funky country blues I put together today for a friend and his movie soundtrack. It's funky, country and bluesy all at the same time. That's tricky!

I had my Williams made in a vain effort to sound like B J, only to discover that he usually records using his Kline...Oh well, back to the drawing board. The last time I did a gig with B J was in the late 80's in Dartford (very cool, not), I was using a Nashville 400 amp at the time but he let me use his amp for my band's set. Not sure what it was, a fairly compact combo, solid-state I think, but boy it was a good few steps up from the Peavey!! A Webb maybe, who knows?

Well Gary, Brian Cole and his musical partner (a lady cellist) played in someone's back garden 3 miles from me a couple of years or so back. We play nothing like each other, but I enjoyed what he was doing. Brian would say that I play with an American accent, which he has little interest in.

At least he's playing his Williams in that shot, which is reassuring! So thanks for the pic. BTW: he often sounds pretty American to me, whether he admits it or not. Not sure what he means by that anyway, or why he cares: name me one truly great non-American steel player (apart from me of course). Actually, name me one great (even average) Thai steel player (that's my last gasp hope).

I'll name you two great non American steel players Gary - Gerry Hogan and Pete Heywood. Those two could hold their own in any company in the world. Basil Henriques and Sarah Jory I would put just behind the first two.

OK, no way am I going to be drawn into that one, only to say that none you mention are even remotely 'great' in my book, not even close...sorry.

Now I await the onslaught!! The things I do to get attention!!

I can honestly say, with no fear of contraception, that Gerry and Pete are both world class and they are great on C6 and E9. In my humble opinion, Pete H is the best in the UK and has been for the last 40 years.

I have no fear of contraception (although I do have four lovely children), but I trust you Ken, I'm sure you're right, and I will shut up now. And I love Gerry anyway, top geezer!
