Can You do this?

Postby Zumbilly(Murdoch) » Sat Jul 09, 2011 8:21 am

Every now and again I(and probably You) have looked at tab etc., and said "that is impossible"
I have been listening to a talk tape in which Mike Cass demonstrates a move and talks You thru' it.Mike does say this is tricky.
If I had'nt heard Him play the move I would say it is impossible.
Playing at the 14th fret strings 2,3 &4 with B&C pedals down and the second string lowered a half tone.
Play all three strings and slide to fret12,let off c pedal, lower the second a full tone and then (keeping b depressed) engage pedal A.
The move from B&C to B&A is the "impossible bit.Mike plays this with no pause for changing foot position.
Give it a try and let Me know what You think.

i've messed w: it Zumbuster - it is tricky ( going from a I : E to a IV : A )
would it be possible to post the tab - it would help
since pedal A is engaged at the end of the lick, string 5 must be played right ?
added as 2 3 4 ring ?
pedal 5 on string 5 is in unison w: string 2 lowered a whole step

Do'nt try it guys.
I heard it wrong.
I have been doing too much training for the Olympics.
C.B. I sent the track to You ,there is no tab.It was then I noticed My error of thinking Mike only let off the C pedal when in fact He lets off both pedals.
Sorry for the confusion.
I AM losing it.

Thanx for the sound clip Zumbuster
ok here's the tab from " now the next part is a little tricky "
basically goin' from the V : E to I : A

1--
2--------------12D>>>12D-----14D>>>12D>>>12Dwhole tone ( in unison w: string 5)
3----15-------12B>>>12-------14B>>>12>>>>12B
4--------------12C>>>12-------14C>>>12>>>>12
5----15---------------------------------------->>12A ( in unison w: string 2)

for the record please note that the position at fret 14 w: lever D1/2 & pedals B&C is none other than an E7
(a hip position which is often unknown or neglected - PF uses it quite a bit - that's where i picked it up)
the root E is on 2 - the Fifth B is on 3 & the Third G# is on 4
also note that the position on fret 12 w: just lever D1/2 is a E7 ( i'm sure you know that one)

"the position at fret 14 w: lever D1/2 & pedals B&C is none other than an E7 "

Is it an E7?
I thought it was an Emaj7 cos of the d# on the 5th?

Look again Henry - there's no maj7 tone - actually my mistake : it's not an E7 since there's no D so it's just an E
string 2 at fret 14 = F - lower 1/2 step w: D = E

ah sorry.. no 5th string in there. I see what you mean  .

I just meant that position with the 2nd string lowered a 1/2 tone with B/C pedals down was a Maj7 position overall cos you get a Maj7 on the 5th string :ugeek:

Anyhow cheers for the tab, it's a nifty move. :guitar:

(I dont have a full tone lower on my 2nd so I've got unison envy :( )

John get Zumbustin Billy to send you the sound clip
i'm sure the 2 of ya's already have each others contacts

Henry, you're correct : at fret 14 w: pedal A on string 5, you get the maj7 Eb BUT according to the tab, it's not played
on the other hand string 5 w: pedal A IS picked at fret 12 which gives the C# ( 3rd of A)

I believe that's an old Weldon Myrick lick. I remember a discussion about it on the US forum some time back. Somebody mentioned the song it comes from. It's one cool lick!
