If you go to Mike's web site - Mike Johnson Productions - and look among Mike's albums, you will find that one contains the two tracks I've given the link for. They are I'm Gonna Miss Her and Me Neither.

Mike Johnson has the lot: red hot chops, great feel, tone.. everything! And, not that I know him personally of course, but he seems like he’d be a really nice guy lol! I mean, he has a friendly face/ demeanour. I think he played Pedabro on Josh Turner’s ‘Long Black Train’ as well - really nice break on that too.

Actually Brad, it was Jeff Surratt who played 'dobro' on Long Black Train, and he was in Josh's band for a few years. Jeff had a resonator simulator called a Cat Can built into his Show Pro guitar, and used it on that track.

I do know Mike J personally, and I can confirm that he is a lovely guy. Those of us from the UK who have met Mike and his wife Joanie will attest that they are very friendly and approachable. They are devout Christians too.

Whoops sorry, for some reason I’ve always thought it was Mike Johnson on a Pedabro! Nevertheless, I love the taste of the break on that track, and that Cat Can simulator sounds incredible!

Jeff Surratt built my Show Pro. A beautiful guitar that sounds and plays great. He and his wife are coming to the UK either this year or next year. Jeff has forgotten more about steel guitar construction than most know.

That price is quite reasonable in my opinion. Particularly when the pound is a little stronger against the dollar. And excluding the U.K. taxes/ import etc!

I didn’t know that I’d ever even heard a Cat Bro - indeed perhaps I’ve heard it many times on records and simply not known! As far as resonator simulators go, it’s the best I’ve heard by far.

My next question is who has one and will you let me play it???

Show Pros in general look like top-drawer guitars. On a par with the ‘new’ MSAs perhaps?

I have both a custom built Show Pro D10 and a top of the range MSA D10 Brad. They are both wonderful instruments. If I was pinned down on how the two of them compare, I would give the edge to the MSA in terms of its engineered design. However, the Show Pro edges it fractionally from a tonal perspective IMHO. The best tone I ever heard at the Dallas Shows by a mile belonged to Mike Johnson when he played his Show Pro on the main stage.

I have toyed with getting another Show Pro with a Cat Can. Much cheaper than the MSA equivalent.
