Holey Moley! Never mind the great Pedabro playing, the steel on this is positively scary. I've never heard MJ playing like that, I always think of him as The Taste Master, delivering the 'bon note' at precisely the right time, but boy oh boy, can he let it rip, or what?

He's up there among the best of all time Danny. Some years ago when I was in a locked room with him and Joanie at Dallas, he set my new Show Pro up for me, and then put my guitar next to his and asked me to have a jam with him. IMODIUM time!!! Actually I managed to keep up with him by a sheer fluke, and since then he tells people that I'm a great player. Very flattering for sure, but I always say in return that Mike is a great player and I'm a competent player. Somewhat incredibly, Mike started his musical career as a drummer, but his band needed a steel player and he volunteered to take it on. Thank God he did.

As far as I'm concerned, Mike and Buck Reid are my two favourite players operating out of Nashville. High praise when Tommy White and Paul Franklin are in town too.

What a great story, Ken. Now that's what I call a Top Tidbit, must've been an incredible session. Do you know if he's back to good health these days? I hope so.

Well touch wood Danny, he is currently in very good health. A little while back, his and Joanie's home was badly hit by storm damage, but has been very well repaired through their insurance. He has a studio built in their very large garage, so has been able to do remote recording while the Covid situation continues.

Those of us who have been following Mike Johnson for the last 15 years or more will be well aware of his all round capabilities, especially his incredible speed picking and pick blocking. Mike is also no slouch when it comes to playing swing style, and this is the first track on his last album. The track is called Columbus Stockade Blues, and features Mike on C6.
