Thanks for that explanation, JohnS, it was interesting. I'm a newbie as far as the pedal steel guitar is concerned, but I have been playing in bands all my life, mostly on keys and guitars. One thing I'd like to raise for discussion (admin/moderator please separate this to a separate topic if you deem that suitable) is the KEY songs are played or sung in. Obviously, there is the original key that a number is recorded in by the original artist. Then along come we musos, and try to emulate the recording - and fall flat on our faces! WHY?? Because the original artist sang say in the high tenor range, while we can only manage mid-baritone. This means that we have to forego the original key, and try one that is more suitable to our vocal range. As JohnS noted - this brings about other changes, such as positions on the fretboard, where the distances between frets are bigger or smaller. But I guess it's all part of the game of getting the best results from our efforts. As far as the forum dying is concerned, I hope not! I've only just joined a few months ago, and I hope to learn lots from perusing it's pages. All the best to everybody!

Cheers Danny! For the Bulkington gig with JD I'm on acoustic with a bit of singing, so my Telecaster stays at home Although we do have 'Teddy Boy' Adlington who provides all the Tele twang we can handle, so the sound is spot on - far better than it would be if I were playing lead!

I'm actually starting a new phase of life where gigging will be a bit tricky, mainly due to the expanding family, so I'm hoping I can do a bit of learning / writing / recording on PSG and regular guitar. And hopefully as I do that I can work out some of those beautiful steel guitar and electric guitar interactions! Hope to post some stuff one day soon-ish!

Very well played, I loved it. I'm only learning lap steel at the moment until I get my pedal steel, (being made by Ron Bennett because I am left handed) but I would love to be able to play like that. Sadly I don't think its going to happen as I am 76 years old and a bit of a late starter! But I love it.

I'm a leftie myself, though I play right handed. Ron Bennett installed the mechanics on my Sho-Bud and it plays like a dream, I'm sure you'll have a top class instrument on your hands once it's ready. As for being a late starter, I've only been playing for about a year so I wouldn't count yourself out just yet!
