Where Are They

Postby mick hearn » Tue Oct 01, 2019 10:00 am

Bob Adams is compiling a list of British Steelies and there are quite a few. So why is it we only hear from very few?

It is rather disappointing as there is a wealth of experience out there that could be shared and lets face it, the steel guitar is fading into oblivion. For those struggling, questions could be asked and answers could be given. It took Dave Hartley to announce the death of one steely who I knew from the early days. There are other names such as John Finlay etc in the East Anglian area, and we hear very little from the London steelies although they meet.

I make no excuses for putting tracks up on the various media, as I don't gig with steel and that is the only audience I have. I for one would like to hear more from others.

Sorry if the above came across as a big grumble. I just want to hear and see what everyone else is doing.

I agree with all you have said Mick, that is the reason I kept asking the guys from Thornton Watlass for videos of their meetings. Will we ever get to see you in Dublin do you think? Any way, keep posting your tunes Sir they are a delight.

Hi Willie. Yes if the invitation is there I would certainly consider coming over. A lot to arrange though due to caring responsibilities at home but that can be sorted.

Hi Mick

I've just popped up and am now shamelessly promoting myself on the new member's recordings page. My excuse, like you, I'm not gigging at the moment (more's the pity) so this is the only way of engaging with the outside world (assuming it's still there). I would love to hear from other steel players in the South West.
