Stratocaster pickups

Postby Zumbilly(Murdoch) » Mon May 23, 2011 3:21 pm

[b]I recently got hold of a Squire Affinity Strat.
A mate set it up for Me and it plays very well it only cost £50.
The pickups are probably standard and I would like to change them.
Seems a bit silly putting a set of p/u's which cost three times the cost of the guitar.
can anyone recommend a cheap set of good sounding replacements.?
The Wilkinson sets look good but how do they sound?

Yo, Billy !
I fitted three Iron Gear humbuckers (try saying that when you're pissed !) to my Epiphone Les Paul and what
a sound they knock out, have a look at their site, Axetec Guitars Iron Gear pickups and read up on them and
see what you think. They quite reasonable, I think the humbuckers I got were about 25 quid each and rate
about 16 ohms each. :o :o
All the best

Thanks Frank,
Strangely enough I was just having a look at their site a few minutes ago.
I like a single coil sound,I have noisless (Fender)p/u's in My other Strat and they are good.
I may drop iron Gear a line and see what they recommend.I find it difficult to choose from listening to soundclips on a computer.
That is My reason for asking and hoping someone has first hand info.
All the best from a very windy Monday

I bought a set of "Pig Iron" pickups from Axetec. The delivery was as stated one day.I fitted them to the guitar and they sound really good at home.
I will take it out at the weekend and give it a blast.

Yo, Billy !
I would be very surprised if you are not over the moon with these excellent pickups, I fitted three Hot Slag Humbuckers
to my Epiphone Les Paul, believe me ,I was knocked out with the result, awesome power, clarity of sound , good
sustain and a great tone. I wait for your report here Monday at the latest !! :D :D
