Update; The first lesson went very well,so much easier when someone's showing you what to do..towards the end he got me playing fill-ins(2nd,3rd and 4th strings together on frets 12/5/7/12) while he played "Your cheating heart" on his acoustic guitar.
Booked anothe lesson for next Friday.

Well done Roy, TAB isn't as mystifying as you think once you get the basics, Keep at it and get some Music Theory from your Tutor if you can. Wish I'd stuck at it in the 1940's !!!

Hi Keith and thanks for your kind words.
The guy I've signed up with is a professional musician of long standing, apart from teaching me tabs,he'll be teaching me some music theory too.
In an email I asked him to write a simple tab for"The Star Spangled Banner" for this week's lesson, which he's done,so I'll be trying that on Friday.
When I was given piano lessons in the 1950's(aged 6),I stood no chance, but now things are so much easier.
I'll post another update after Friday.

Update;I've now got the basic tab for"The Star Spangled Banner"and am slowly learning it.Also my tutor has set me the task of learning where the major and minor chords are, with a written list showing how to find them.
Once again, towards the end,I was playing fill-in chords whilst he played"I'm so lonesome I could cry"on his acoustic.

Hi Nighthawk,

I was also in the same place as yourself 6 months ago, but still very much a newbie, luckily I live in the same town, would be great to compare notes, I've managed to gain some understanding of the challenges your facing, PM me it would be great to hear from you
