Dave - one of the main reasons that I have come to Nashville at the moment was to see Lloyd perform live. He is a real legend when the word is grossly over-used. But coming up to the age of 80 he won't be around forever, and watching Lloyd play live again was on my bucket list. He told me in an email a few years ago that he would never do any more steel guitar shows - but he has and thoroughly enjoyed himself. I was at his sound check when he was playing through a Webb and wasn't used to the sound that they produce. He had a quick tweak of the controls and hey presto! It was that magic tone of his.

I have learned a lot from him, just talking to him over breakfast and watching him warm up for an hour before the start of last Sunday's show that I went to. He just works with what he has at his disposal, and much of what he achieves comes from his left hand. He has beautiful moves that are pure Lloyd, and of course he put his heart and soul into every single note. The most important things to him when he plays is Melody, Melody and Melody. His guitar is nothing special - in fact without being too rude it is a clunker. He is emotionally attached to it, but it doesn't play too easily and of course his set up is so very basic. He just works with it and knows its capabilities. He is treated as a treasure by the steel guitar community here and so he should be. All of the players love him as a human being and as a musician. :D
