Free Collaboration and Session Backup Service (Splice)

After reading through a few posts on here about recording and such, I thought I'd introduce y'all to a wee session backup service called Splice. I've been using it for a while, mostly to backup my tracks in progress incase of a computerbox meltdown or the like, however, it's also really handy as a collaboration tool as you can share your sessions with other folks and they can work with you in that there pass-the-parcel fashion. Each save creates a new version on the server, so you can easily roll-back if something doesn't work out as you'd hoped. And it's completely free, which is awesome, as recording sessions can become pretty hefty files. I reckon they make their money by selling samples and plugins to users of their service.

It's worth noting that at the moment, it's only compatible with the following DAWs: Ableton Live, Garageband, Logic Pro and Fruity Loops Studio and all collaborators have to have the same DAW installed in order to collaborate on a session. This has been a bit of a snag for myself and other collaborators as I use Ableton Live and they've been using ProTools, Sonar, or something else. That said, if you use any of these DAWs it's a really neat way to backup your sessions. As soon as you save your project in your DAW, Splice will ask if you want to back it up to the cloud. And if you click "Yes" it'll start uploading the files for you n the background. You can also add notes if you like too.

Anyways, I know a lot of y'all seem to be using Band-in-a-Box for recording, so this might not be much use, but I thought I'd mention it as I've found it mighty helpful.

p.s. Out of curiosity, is there a specific reason Band-in-a-Box is so popular here?

Band in a box is a very quick way to pull together a backing track and I imagine that's the reason for it's popularity amongst forumites.
I don't think a lot of people use it as a recording tool. I use Reaper, the people's software, ye canny whack it

Ah, well that makes perfect sense, since most folks here probably just want to play along with something. I've heard good things about Reaper, not used it myself though. There's actually quite a lot of choice for free or low-cost recording software these days, OhmStudio, MuLab, Studio One, even ProTools has a free version out now called First. Ableton Live is my weapon of choice.
