Re.. The steel will die...

You know what I mean, it's always going to be here, but new players are not amongst us.. If they are, I can't see them?
Just us old codgers, and very old codgers like John Davis..
Work it out.. Anybody with any common loaf will know what I am trying to say...

Don't mean to highjack the thread here .... just expanding on 'Young Blood' or the lack of it!!

Good to hear you had a great weekend.. look forward to seeing the 'evidence!!'

Fear not.... there is young blood around we just don't always see them, I know of four in Scotland late twenties early thirties..
Simon Lawrie / Forfar, Adam Bulley / Edinburgh, Iain Sloan, Queensferry, Stewart Conway / Glasgow, young Stewart joins us at times at the SSGW but we don't see the others as they are further up the country. PSGs used are Carter, Emmons, Denley, MSA.. we also have Calum Mclean in Colintraive (west coast) in his forties using an LDG.

I put up the Pedalsteel.co.uk site because I could find little evidence of Steel players on these islands of ours but my goodness what a revelation the past ten years has been, many medal class, some who just enjoy and of course some blue badge holders ...
but...hey-ho as they say up here ... many a good tune played on an auld fiddle!!! or as Billy Conolly would say.. seasoned wood!!
:guitar: :guitar:

We just need more young blood with Matt Park's enthusiasm... I don't know the names in the south other than those I've met.. Henry, Jason, Alan etc. perhaps someone else can pick this up for the young blood in their area.

There's 4 players I haven't heard of.

Perhaps they don't like the pay to play part of coming to these meetings, or us !

I am seasoned wood alright. I don't know about the others, perhaps they're looking old for their age !

I supposes I better put a :D here in case someone's tablets make them think I'm serious..

And there is another post from a seasoned member. I'll soon be dedicated..

Sorry for being too cowardly to play steel (and panicking over the little I did on guitar)! I will come prepared next time.

Already ordered one of Basil's bars and will be studying hard!

Now if I can only persuade Liz to let me go to Forth Worth Jamboree!

You would love the Texas Steel Guitar Jamboree. Not only do they have the best steel players in the world on the bill each year, they have some great musicians in the backing band. Wall to wall music on pedal and non pedal steel. I was asked to play this year, but because I play Day setup I am stymied. I've been trying to get Tony Smart and Bobby Haskell to get over there one time. They would be in their elements, and would be great ambassadors for the UK. ;)

I reciprocate all of the above, Basil played a lot more because he didn't speak so much between the tunes, Pat is always right, Derek has improved a great deal since last year, he has a deft touch and a sweet tone, just needs a bit of confidence and up the volume a bit. It was nice to see Ken there, he did old man forgetful and left his laptop at home, he has threatened to come back to Scotland, as has Derek, they will both be made welcome. I think Will was a bit better looking than the last time very suave, played a mean tune as well. Keith, we've all been there, just bring your steel and you'll get all the help you need. Peter played a mean set, it's amazing how he can swear under that moustache. What else is there to say about Rod: Nothing, he was old. St Lois Blues. Brilliant. John Davis was a return visitor to the weekend and he played and he played and he played, John, you were just brilliant. Thank you for bringing the tuner and strings. Pat and Rosemary I don't know how you do it, nuff said. Then there's Tony, a one man band. Thank you to all who gave something to a great weekend of steel guitar. To Vicky and all the staff at The Buck Inn, thank you. See you all next year. Donny.
PS I also used one of the new bars made by Basil, Like Ken I don't think I'll use a metal bar again. He has given me a sample bar which I will be handing round at the SSGW August meeting.

Thank you for the kind words Donny, sorry I had to light out so quick on the first day, I had to get all my playing done as the Eithne cannot be left on her own for too long her health issues have to take priority at this time. I was very impressed with all I saw and heard , will have to sharpen my action a bit if I am ever going to use one of Baz's Bar's I found it was too quick for me  I could not keep up with it, the lack of string drag left me over shooting the mark I was aiming for........ not the fault of the bar I hasten to add ...just gotta up my game :?

Amen to all that. I was about to say "big up for the cabaret man during dinner" but Donny's patted your back already, John, so we're good. Now the long term plan has to be to get Di to agree to us going to one of the big steel shows in the States.... 8-)
