Welcome to the club. At last another National Grand Console player. I have C6 on the back neck and a sort of E13 on the front although if I list the strings Basil will tell me its something different. Have a G# on top.

I've seen some of your videos - terrific, if I got to play half as well I'd be pleased. Love the sound and look of the National.

If you get stuck on any phrases or there is a particular song you wish to have a go at then put it here as a new post in the lap steel section with the song title in the title area. I am sure that between the various players we could find a solution. Everyone's playing styles and ideas are different and I am sure with a bit of luck we could get some debate in. In the meantime have a look round on YouTube and see what you can manage.

For example - I was recently looking at Doug Jernigan - yes ambitious I know - and I like his version of "My home in Sanantone". Now he is using a pedal steel and me an 8 string lap. But could I get some of the licks he uses? That is the challenge. It will be impossible to to get some phrases but could I get close to discover some handy little tricks. I am getting there and have found some.

The other person to get some ideas from is Roger Edgington. "My Shoes Keep Walking Back To You" is another I am looking at. You will find most of these as with Doug Jernigan on the TSGA videos on YouTube.

Keep at it mate.
