New Steel Player

Postby charliejwalter » Tue Mar 31, 2015 6:22 am

Hey all,

I'm a newbie, just bought a Carter Steelie, so i'm looking for some good tabs, tracks and videos. I'm really into my country and bluegrass.

I already play guitar, 9 years now I think, (flatpicking and finger picking) and I mess around on the Mandolin, Banjo and Dobro a lot too.

Here's what I do at the moment:

Any help appreciated!

PS. Dying to learn the intro to The Carpenters - "Top of the World" but can't find any tabs

Nice guitar Charlie. :D

That's funny - I had a guitar identical to yours until yesterday. I'll show you the parts to Top Of The World next time you come down.

If you continue to progress at the rate that you have after just a couple of lessons you will be a monster player. :o :D

Don't listen to him Charlie.

He is so tight that he clicks when he walks. The last time that Malcolm had a shout was when the midwife slapped his backside!!

Thanks for all the welcomes! haha!

My first day, only got about 3 hours after work today but here ya go! :)

I made a video and put it up on Youtube as private so only you guys can see my newbie playing. haha

I'm already plucking in the wrong place.
I was getting okay at moving to the "sweet spot" after that high bit, but I was focusing on trying to get the bar in the right place. The second time around is slightly more in tune.

That first bit I didn't quite get the walk down from 17th, 16th, 15th instead its a slurry 17th - 15th.

Any feedback would be grand!

Mr Bling, you assured me you would not divulge that little incident with the smacking mid wife, if the wife finds out I'm dead :o ;) , I know your nurses are more into bondage( you can protest all you like, but we know about tying up your legs)! :o

Considering that you have been playing literally for only about 5 or 6 hours now, you have the right & left hand co-ordination off really well.Keep at it and put the time in. You have massive potential.

Mr McMiser
That 'little incident' occurred in 1939 when you were born. So you are safe with your wife. :D :D
