Hey Guys.........I tried to buy a new Rolls Royce to-day....Trouble was I didn't have enough money....So the BMW sales guy agreed to sell it to me without the wheels and tyres

Telonics , have also agreed to sell Their badges....Now you can just buy any old amplifier, down at ARGOS , and put a Telonics badge on it..

Malcolm has the Rolls Royce of steel guitars.......Now he wants to hang an Argos special amp on the end of it.......Boy listen to that tone now....

It took a few years, to develop that Combo...Now with about, 6 dozen units sold ...Some guys want all that thrown out the window, and bring out a cheapo diluted version.....Next week on the Forum , the big complaint will be, ..... I just bought one of those new Cheapo Telonics amps...Hell it sounds terrible.

I sure would not want to be in the business of making good quality amps......

No Mr Telonics....Stay with your excellent Combo ,and your rack systems...Let everybody else make the Cheap stuff

Ivor, not everyone has the cash that you and Mr Byng have to spend on equipment, some of us have to live within our means, hence I cannot afford to go to Dallas this year, so therefore I am not going, likewise I don't have £1765 to spend on a pre1000 or appx £2300 buy a 500.I can however afford my MB200, which has a perfectly good tone.Do I think there is great difference in tone to justify the £1500/2000 price difference NO!!!!!Am I going to put myself into a lot of debt to get one of these --NO. If I was still out playing would the punters( or other band members) notice the difference in tone if I had a high end amp?--NO!!!! Who would notice? me and possibly a few other steel players, all down to the old ego thing again, and personally I don't give a s*** what other players think of my gear, AS LONG AS I AM HAPPY WITH IT.
Good luck to all those who can afford it, I am happy for them, and can I just say Ivor, making a basic version without the toys, as long as it has same EQ will NOT. Make it an inferior amp.

Ivor
I don't think that there is any way the Dave Beaty would make a product that is tonally inferior in a quest to produce a less expensive amp. His sense of pride wouldn't allow that. There are plenty of other less costly amps around that make perfectly good gigging and recording amps, dependant upon taste. While I know that you have your tongue firmly in cheek, Malcolm's amps could never be described as 'Argos' quality. I have a Peavey Valve King 100w 2 x 12" combo that sounds superb for pedal steel, and cost me just £299 new. Less than half the cost of a Nashville 112, with a superior tone.

The only criticism that has been levelled at Telonics equipment - both in Europe and across the pond - is that it is unarguably expensive. It's not wrong to explore ways of reducing the selling price by omitting some of the bells and whistles. Personally I can't see any way of making significant reductions in the cost to the customer without it affecting the overall quality of the goods. End of really.

I said previously that it would be virtually impossible to reduce the cost of The Telonics equipment By any significant amount.
Why gripe about the price when You have no interest in buying one.A Rolls Royce is built for people who can afford one, makes no difference to Me what they cost.
I,for one, think the Pre 1000 and all the other Telonics gear is first class,I don't complain about the cheap Chinese gear because I prefer not to buy it but I cannot say Don't buy it .
A guitar player once said to Me "When will You ever learn?"I was preparing to go to Dallas for the third time,I have now been to Dallas ten times and have never regretted any of those visits.
Is it not about time We closed this thread? We are drifting back and forth and letting our bellies rumble, not too many Forum members are joining in either.

Billy, nothing wrong with asking if prices could be lowered through adjustments to accommodate those of us who don't have your budget.

Edit, as far as members not joining in, not many do in any of the threads, and also it is not griping to say you can't afford it, the whole point is I WOULD BUY IF IT BUDGET ALLOWED, or if it was at lower price I could afford, as I have said all the way through this thread it is first class gear and customer service is second to none.

Guys ...all points are valid....Yes there is no doubt the Telonics gear is expensive....

Malcolm...you are very sensible in your approach to buying anything ...Never put yourself in debt .

Ted Nesbitt plays thru a Nashville 112 with a Boss DD3....He can sound, really good on any guitar he plays ,using that amp ....Hands ...Hands ..Hands

I would highly recommend anyone on a budget, to buy a good used Webb amp....I can guarantee you it will hold its own all day long ...No matter what amp you stack up against it

I loaned one of mine , to Mike Headrick , for the Irish steel festival....Everyone, bar 3 players requested the use of it all weekend.....Listen to Mike on Youtube at the Irish festival

Dallas is looming.......It will be nice to see the Scottish contingent in Commonwealth corner...Sadly with no Malcolm....But we will, all be talking about him during the weekend.......All steel players should be given the opportunity to attend the Dallas show

Maybe we should try and set up a cheap deal for members to attend next year...Travel arrangements could be bought a lot better if the numbers were up

It would be great if we could charter a plane to Dallas and back for steel players & partners at a competitive rate. Non stop steel playing on the way over, and non stop piano playing on the way back when we would be 'steeled out'.

We could hire a couple of coaches from the airport to hotel, and get The Driver in the driving seat of one of them. I would travel in the second one!!  If I won the Euromillions I would definitely fund that for everyone. :D

+1 Ivor. The Webb is 40 years old in design, and still sounds great today. Superb EQ section, with a sub section that can be dialled in. I can see the Telonics TCA-500 combo still around in 40 years time. My Bradshaw Webb has a metal sound chamber with 5 ports, 4 to the front and a larger one to the rear. It is not a lightweight amp, and even with a Neo Black Widow it is still heavy. The Telonics combo feels like half the weight.
