Illuminated fretboards

Postby Will C » Tue Jan 27, 2015 12:13 pm

I received my LED fretboard from Richard at Live Edge Fretboards last week, here's a couple of photos from my phone. It couldn't have been simpler to fit and set up, and it seems easy to play with it, even in darkness. The illumination is brighter with a regulated power supply, but there's a decent level even from the little battery box supplied.

Mine is one of the early orders, I understand he is looking at tooling up to use more efficient CNC methods to make them in future. It arrived very swiftly after the order was placed. Nice one, Richard, great service!

Only thing I can see wrong with it Will is the Blue light......, If you ever get yourself videoed under a blue light you will find you look like you have been dead for 3 days! If its poss to change it for a nice warm red or orange I would say go for it....

John, there are colours available to match the guitar colour, or contrast with the guitar. I have a blue one also, and it so happens my guitar and Wills are the same finish. This is not a Henry Ford job. Any colour you like as long as it's ?
I take your point about videoing with the blue. Anything that covers my face has got be good.

Not the fretboard colour that wants changing donny, just the colour of the lights, any colour lights would do if its dark anyway then you cannot see the guitar colour.... but blue is a no no on vid IMHO.

John, the fretboard itself is actually clear, the LEDs are the colour source, you can get blue, red, green, yellow .I have the blue one also, thought it was the clearest in really dark situations.

I too, like a blue light and if I had one of these might well choose a blue one...... all I would ask is an on-off switch for when needed. The show I work in at the moment starts in complete darkness apart from a light around the singers and they would bitch about any other light source that I came up with....... The man in charge of lighting gets his own idiot sheet to work to. Some of us have the charm and the good looks to look good in any light  but us mere mortals have to contend with what we have got.......My other fav. subject on lighting is when the light man puts a red or blue wash on stage the little atom signs on my fret board disappear!! now, what we gonna do bout that!!??????
