This is interesting, If everyone learns from the same "Tab" then are you all gonna sound the same??? I have never read a tab don't even think I could but if you sus out the chords, then play the melody through the chords at least you will sound like you ;) Head down for INCOMING!! :? :?

I couldn't agree with Mr Davis more, get the old grey cells working and work out the tune, and hey, there will be a few pleasant surprises along the way that you will stumble upon while trying to work out the melody. I can see the benefits in tab but have never had much success with it.
Then again maybe that says more about my playing than i think

I have the tab for Tommy White's version of this number. However I have to agree with Willie G on the whole aspect of tab. I would rather work a piece out by ear, but tab is a short cut I suppose. :)

For those of us who are new (ish) to psg, tab is a great way of understanding the relationship between scales, chord positions and voicings on psg. Why write a novel when you can borrow one from the library?
I agree that slavish adherence to tab might have us sounding all the same, but once we have understood the structure of a song using tab, we can add (or subtract) to our heart's content.
When I've been playing for thirty years or more, I'm sure I will have the skills to work out tunes for myself - but, in the meantime, I am learning loads - from tab!
