Shakey, that is exactly the type of Vid. I was trying to articulate, It is clear slow and I can watch his picks and how his fingers articulate. I've downloaded that particular vid. so I can go over and over it.

The only thing I'm qualified to do is Health and Fitness. When I gave being a Snapper I was going to buy a gym. ihn Stamford, but the greedy guy we were buying from, held his hand out for more money on the day we were due to sign...not the smartest move. So we left him holding it. Racing motorbikes I can give you chapter and verse...it was my career from '63 to the TT '74 and in that time I lost more friends than I care to count. I could have stayed with Jazz guitar, that I strted when I was 14..my teacher was a guy called Ted Palmer ex. suadronnaires sax. player who used to make mouth pieces by hand out clear perspex. But motorbike racing won out and I went back to guitars 35 years later.

I can make planks of wood into nice looking non PSG's and they have quite a nice tone...but I just can't play the things worth a damn....such is life.

Thanks for the link, and now that I've calmed down some, I think that particular clip could help many more in the same pos. as me.

Thanks a bunch.

Glad to be of help Maurice and when it comes to M/C racing there is no bigger fan than me. My nephew (Sean Seddon) has raced bikes for a number of years, (club racing that is) and won a few club championships. In fact he bought one of his bikes (a TT winning bike from Bruce Anstey.) His stepson Joel Morris was a bloody good little racer and could have done really well but he chose women. It won't surprise you to know that my favour rider is Guy Martin, have followed him for many years even though he's never won a TT. Well I hope you can find more videos, if I find any I'll pass on the links. Cheers. Dave.

Dave,
Guy is one good rider who just hasn't had the luck he deserves...but he is still alive. Scruffy isn't the word for him, but sure is, one hell of an engineer. The TT is in my book the best road circuit in the world...it doesn't forgive though, so accidents can prove costly. I had both feet smashed the just after the Balacraine Pub (It isn't there anymore) I waddled more than walked for a while.

It a lot safer sitting behind a steel guitar though, ain't it.

I bet you wouldn't have changed any of it though would you?? When it's in the blood etc., just like steel guitar.

Not sure how useful this is because it relates to dobro as oppose to lap steel, but I imagine the two are fairly similar in terms of right hand technique etc. If you're looking for online instruction it's well worth checking out lessons with troy - https://www.lessonswithtroy.com/C6-Tuni ... l-Lessons/ - as there are lots of beginner lap steel lessons on there that will focus on right hand technique. Anyway, here's a video that may or may not help:

I'm a dobro player myself, but if you have anything specific about right hand technique that you're struggling with, then I'd be happy to advise you. In my experience the main thing is to make sure that the picks are striking the strings face on, as oppose to at an angle. Like I said though, I can only speak from a dobro player's perspective as I haven't yet ventured into electric lap steel.

Morning Robin,

I am sorry I think the site you have mentioned is the last one any of us should visit, teaching is an art and unfortunately, not only in my book but many others, there are too many bad influences on this site, his picking might be somewhere up to scratch, but certainly not his methods or techniques. Basil has mentioned in posts in the past, that this site is"Not how it should be done, out of tune and glissando where there shouldn't be". Then more on palm blocking.

So thank you for your thoughts and posting it for me, but I'm going to have to pass.

Yes for the sake of your future sanity and musical capabilities avoid "Troy" like EBOLA..
The Mike Witcher one is OK but ! see below..
Maurice, I'll be available on Skype today, just text me beforehand @ int+44(0)7800-646-645 or PM me on Farcebuck..Or use the PM system button here and the Skype button next to it..

Resonator guitar technique and Electric Lap Steel are quite different, on a reso it's recommended that you pick quite hard to get the best tone, whereas on a lap steel your main volume and tone control IS your picking, i.e. If you can't double you volume for solo licks and take it back down for backing parts just by picking strength, then you're picking would need studying more..

This would be the best way to practise slants IMHO as you can do it whilst sitting down anywhere (As long as you have a bar with you)
