Just found your society referenced on another site

Postby cliffelwell » Sat Sep 06, 2014 11:25 pm

Hi
My name is Cliff and I have been playing an Emmons D-10 for nearly 40 years. I live near Orlando Florida and have just completed building my first pedal steel. It is a single neck 10 string E-9th model. the old D-10 is getting quite heavy these days, it refuses to go on a diet, so I built a lighter one.
I'll leave msgs. from time to time.
For now

Welcome Cliff to this side of the pond great to have you on our forum.

yes, I guess I can do that. I'd also like to hear some of the members play the next time We go across the pond. We try to visit my wife's relatives every year. She is a dual citizen now and so we travel there occasionally. I'll post the dates for our next visit and maybe catch one of the steelies at a gig.

Well, heck yeah I'd love to do that (someday) but can you imagine the checked bag fees for 80 pounds (39Kg) of baggage!! Actually the old push-pull D-10 will be set up in the computer room for learning new stuff. (Can you imagine an old 70 Y.O. learning new licks?)

Hello there Cliff, nice to have you on the site, we have steel festivals over here from time to time so if you get your visit right you can meet more than one.
Being a Silver Surfer is well accepted here, I'm 76 and still gigging but on a lighter scale, I think the site should start a Silver Surfer page then we can all chat on the same level and pass a few hint's aroung regarding steel after retirement.
Keep coming back, it will be nice to have a Colonial on the site. :)

Hi Cliff, welcome to the UK world of steel guitars and things of similar ilk..
When Pat and I went to Hawaii we took her Hofner Jazzica, an amp and My Fender 1000. Checked baggage allowances on transatlantic/long haul flights are quite generous. (At least 20Kg per person + hand baggage/carry-on)
From memory I think we only had to pay a couple of hundred pounds excess. Well worth it to have your own instrument with you, and, in my case absolutely essential as only 5 people in the world use my copedent..
