That site seems to use those DIY "coffee table" screw-in legs. One thing I've found with them is that the splay-angle is not enough to stabilise a guitar. They were designed to be at the corners of a much wider table than a narrow steel guitar. Maybe you can dream up something (add a wooden wedge; route out a recess with an angled bottom ...? ? ?) to increase the angle so they splay out more.
You can make legs with chromed 22mm pipe and walking stick ferrules on the ends. But then you need to figure how to fix them on; or in?
I wonder if those folding "X" keyboard stands can be adapted? Somebody on here will have more ideas, for sure.
Good luck.

funny you should say that because I just bought an old coffee table with those screw-on legs...

I think I'll try those first, the mounting plates are at about 15 degrees. If thats not enough I'll try mounting them at an angle in some way.

How much of an angle do you think it would need ? Height off the ground about 760mm, overal lenght of the base is about 850mm

I do indeed need more of an angle on the legs. Maybe by planing some angles on the lower surface.

Still a bit too high but will finalise the length when the angles are right

Been looking at my lapper again (got distracted with a new acoustic guitar for a while).

Tony mentioned that the pickup should be closer to the bridge. Now I like the sound I get from the existing setup so am wondering how will it change if I move it closer to the bridge? I am slow to go cutting a new hole in that lovely piece of wood without good reason. Also I will need to cover the existing hole with a scratchplate, or go with dual pickups.
Any opinions on the following questions.
1. What is the ideal position for the 'bridge' pickup?
2. One pickup or two
3. Single coil vs humbucker?

Or

4. Do I leave it as is, get a new slab of wood and start building Mark II ?
