IRISH STEEL FESTIVAL

I intended to spend two days at the festival, but couldn't get out of a wedding gig on the saturday, and after only 3 1/2 hours sleep, set off sunday morn on the three hour trek to bettystown, immediately hooked up with the manchester mafia, and the fun began had a nice afternoon, mike headrick is a nice player, backing band were great, especially charlie arkins on fiddle and harmonica, came back for the night time session, got to meet Bob Adams and Paul Brennan for the first time, particulary want to thank Bob for making me a replacement part for my sho bud, and he certainly did not rob me, thank you Bob, also got to share the stage with Paul and Bob for a couple of songs, along with a superb band, Bob played a strat, paul played some nice fiddle, biggest regret, i missed david hartley, next year hopefully

Good to meet you too at last Eddie, from what I could see you sure enjoyed it, you and Joe Kelly are a characters when you get together! The Jam was good eh! Though a tad loud here and there! All good fun. you just need to try and catch it all next time, Ted and I have at last made a pact with Pat to do a joint spot on steel next year! That show be interesting! So assuming we are all still around I’ll look forward to seeing you next October!

Eddie, it was really nice to meet you at last. You played some nice guitar as well my friend.
Bob I'm delighted to hear you're planning to play the show next year with Ted. You've made a public announcement now so you can't back out you know! For anyone that doesn't know - these two guys (Bob & Ted) are very good steel players. Oh and Bob, that was some nice keyboard and guitar playing at the jam session. Did anyone catch the great Marcel Parijs playing drums at the start of the Sunday night jam session? I threw some Irish fiddle tunes at him and he busked along perfectly. What a great musician! Mark Horn completely blew me away with his version of Orange Blossom Special in the bar on Saturday night. That was something special to have witnessed.

The jam sessions were the brain child of Brendan O'Reilly and we all owe him a large debt of gratitude.

thanks Paul, i really enjoy the jam sessions, sorry i missed the saturday night one, the jam sessions would for me, be the highlight of the weekend, more so than the festival slots, thanks to the kelly family in bettystown, for giving me evening dinner and a bed for the night, and lots of wine, i go back a long way with joe kelly and jimmy smyth, [who both sang at the sunday night session] from my manchester days, two brilliant characters, although a very bad influence on me, Bob and Ted !!!1!!!!!!!![bob ted carol & alice was a soft porn film] but i digress, well i will look forward to that next year, two lovely fellas, who do so much for the steel guitar community, sorry i missed your steel guitar set Paul, next year definately

Hey Mr Brennan, Your honour is to be first video uploaded! I'm still working on it all and the pics while getting on with some urgent jobs, I have to have a guitar back across the water tomorrow afternoon (mm! later today I guess)!..... I thought the Jam was your brainchild! Anyway it was a bit of fun and as always enjoyed by those involved! I too enjoyed your fiddle playing I so wish I was good at that, My grandfather was an outstanding Scottish fiddler so it should be in me! Ah well! Eddie so that you are included in this post ... 'Here's Joe imparting his wisdom and picture of the back of your scone'! !!

I'd like to thank everyone at the Irish festival for their support. It was interesting hearing peoples comments about my Steel Mixer and Dave Beaty's Telonics products, I've learnt a lot! I'd like to thank the Irish Steel Guitar Festival organisers, especially Maurice Wilson, for the tremendous work they do promoting steel guitar in Europe for the benefit of us all.

A big thank you to David (and the Hartley cafe) and Mike for their support; these guys played some really really nice steel guitar My signed Ralph Mooney CD will most certainly be treasured.

Marcel Parijs used my own Steel Mixer rig for his set, what a player... I hate him!(not) And thank you Ivor for your support.

Better get the nose to the grindstone now...

Hi Graham, yes that Blanton of his has that thin wound almost Fender sound quite unique really, I like it too it reminds me of his (Heyday 70s) gigging days. What memories! I have just stuck another vocal one of his on also! Messers Kirk and Dunn up next!! !
