They have two rooms upstairs - often with music/theatre on in the evenings - but they might let us have it during the day (6th)

I used to live and work in the Selkirk :), would be the perfect size space but unfortunately these guys are right about the stairs - particularly as it's a pretty steep and tight curve up there. Also it's all wooden floorboards upstairs and I can just imagine all those families trying to eat Sunday lunch while being serenaded by 10 steel guitars playing Misty ;) ! A few years ago they had plans to convert a load of outhouses out the back into a rehearsal space for local bands -would've been great but never happened.

For future reference we could look into the Castle pub just by Tooting Broadway station, has a huge car park and a ground level function room that they used to let amateur orchestras practice in so I reckon they'd be receptive to a few steelies. It's undergoing a refurb at the moment but should be done soon(ish).

The function suite at this place could be worth a look for the time being, I have called but couldn't get through to anyone.

Hi Henry and other steelies interested in the inaugural SLSG pow-wow.
I've been doing an internet search for halls to hire in my area but the prices seem to be prohibitive, especially at weekends. £30-£40 per hour, and that's before checking availability.
I'm sure we're all prepared to contribute towards hall hire but these prices seem too steep.
I'm not a pub-goer, so have no idea what might be available in my area (and there are not too many pubs, either, for that matter).
There's a church hall not far away but not accessible unless we're all car drivers...
Anyone else got any thoughts?
It would be great to get this off the ground - I look at the Scottish players, meeting monthly, and am envious.

HI Guys,

I've been thinking along the church hall lines but the likleyhood is they'll be fully booked on Sundays for Churchie stuff.
Perhaps we should be looking at Community Centres (and village halls hut not sure how many of them we'll find in London).
Alternatively, as has already been mensioned somewhere, is a large rehursal room.

I guess we keep looking

Apologies all for suggesting somewhere upstairs. I live on the third floor flat so have to deal with stairs all the time!

This place has a ground floor room for hire - don't know rates but they might be cheap if we don't require a bar/food etc... Plus it looks fairly gear up to local-level theatre/music etc

Hi Guys and Gals... Judgebouche has come up with a strong possibility in the Bread and Roses pub. They have a Rose Room at £50 for a Sunday but it is upstairs - note previous comments about lugging steel guitars up flights of stairs! The Garden Room would be £80 for the day. Clearly if there are a good half-dozen of us, I think this is a great price, given the prices I saw for community halls. I guess we need a confirmed date (I haven't checked dates with them - I did note 6th October??? and confirmed numbers. I reckon we could do 12 noon until 6.00pm and see how we go. It could become a regular - say once a month. Anyway, I'm getting ahead of myself.
Let's get a quick response/commitment and we can try and book 6th. We can think about structure, format etc once we've got something concrete to work with. How does this sound?

The 6th is good for me Nick count me in.
Don't know what parking will be like but shouldn't be too bad on a Sunday.

Thanks Nick, this all sounds like it could work- it's certainly not a bad price and as Shuan said, parking on a Sunday should be o.k. How do we take this forward-is it an idea to book the venue anyway and split the cost between however many turn up on the day or would it be better to have firm commitments in advance? I can make the 6th but will go with the majority if this changes. Cheers, Andy.
