What was the first song to make you fall for the steel?

Just as a point for discussion and sharing.

For me, it was the track Build A Fire by late-80s/early-90s electro firebrands and burners of a million quid, The KLF. A quieter track from their 1991 album that was the first "serious" album that I ever bought, me being 11 at the time. I don't think I even knew what instrument it was and probably didn't become aware of what a steel guitar actually was until many years later (deeper than calling it "country guitar" at least), but I always remembered loving it's gentle, sweet ambient sound. Pulled on me heart strings, so it did.

Mine was in 1959 when I first heard and bought"Love Song of the Waterfall" by Slim Whitman with the singing lap steel.

For me it was Don Helms, I had no Idea what the instrument was and tried to get the sound on a normal guitar, after that when I heard Tom Brumley play Together Again I was hooked.
Blanton D10, Justice s10, Fender Acoustasonic 150, 1 Brain, 2 Hands, 2 Knees, & 2 Feet.

Well first there was Slimbo playing Rose of San Antone in the "Red Cow" Hammersmith on his "Denley" I believe that must have been in the late 1800`s But after that it was anything from the "Powerglide" Album from NRPS with Buddy Cage on steel or Hot licks and cool steel from Commander Cody and the LPA featuring Bobby Black on steel....
IMHO these two albums show our beloved instrument at its very best!! do yourselves a favour youtube `em......

I hadn't a clue what a pedal steel guitar was until 1989 when I joined my first country band. I was ordered to learn steel and this is the first song I tackled:

So simple but so effective. That got me well and truly hooked.
