Hello Steelies,

I'm looking to purchase a seat. I'm debating importing a steeler's choice. I like the little side compartment, but I know this is going to cost me a fortune.
A forum search mentioned Scott Dixons in Hull, John White from Wales and Baz Weston from London, but can anyone give me any hints to costings or
recommendations, PM if needs be.

My other thought was buying a flight case for something the size of a stool and putting a cushion on the top, then I'd still have something to sit on and carry
bits around in.

Any input would be massively appreciated.

I haven't seen any of Baz Weston's seats, but JD says they are good. I have a Scott Dixon seat which I have sent back this week for repair. The USA seats are pretty good but to import one would cost a bunch. It wouldn't take too much to build a decent seat I would have thought. I have also got a seat made by a guy in Swansea which has been excellent and a copy of the single Steeler's Choice seat.

Thanks Ken. I have a feeling (though I may be wrong!) the SD will be out of my price range at the minute. I've emailed Baz so awaiting a reply.
My brother has recommended a mirrorball flight case, or a flight case for a moving head lighting effect that is the size of a stool. I could get it
cushioned and castored and that would allow me to swing round between piano and steel if needs be.

I made mine out of 12mm chip board, covered with "amp" vinyl. Hinged the front and glued (evostick) ply dividers inside for the toys. Furniture gliders on the bottom. For the top I used a peice of ply, slightly smaller than the top, drilled through both to align bolts and used thick foam rubber and vinyl to "upholster it, leaving the bolts sticking down under the foam. That way the thing could pop on the top and the nuts tightened from inside. You can see the hinges and catch in the piccy. Didn't cost much and has lasted 25 years. The pics should be explanatory. The panels were cut for me (to my measurements) at the local DIY store using their table saw and simply pinned and glued using evostick impact. Once it's made up, it's solid but you could glue in a triangular fillet to support the joints, I used fillets on the dividers.

I was thinking about this the other week and might have tried boxing in an existing "square", upholstered, stool (the kind you often see in pubs) as an easier solution.

The seats that Baz Weston makes are very similar to my "Walker" seat, I was really lucky that Scotty lugged it over for me on his visit to Wembly or I guess I would`ent have one either.... but Baz can make`em I think with or without a back rest he has the tools and is set up for it.. you can reach him on 02085336574
