Rehearsal bits for TV shows in Cyprus.

In the studios rehearsing tunes for the 3 TV shows we're doing in Cyprus next week. Swedish Rhapsody, Buckaroo and Steel Guitar Rag. I must thank my wife Pat for the LOAN of HER guitar. I got it from a pawn shop in Hawaii, it was seized up and rusty. Came with VERY long legs and rods and it was not that colour originally. My student Mike Eacock restored it, rechromed all the parts and did the two tone pink-lilack sunburst. He is a specialist JCB collector and restorer. This was his first attempt at something so small !

That is one beautifully gaudy guitar, Basil. I'd imagine it will test the mettle of of any potential set designers out there in TV land, and you'll have to rummage deep in the wardrobe to be seen behind that gal.

I'll have to wait till I get home to listen to the clips. No flash on my phone, I'm afraid.

With 8 strings and 9 pedals, I'm having an uneducated guess that it's a custom jobbie? What's the tuning, if I may be so bold?

Pat played it at the Sunday Luau at Steve Hancocks house in September 2004, she played Tiger Shark (Em-G), Yellow Bird (C), Beyond the Reef (F), Harbour Lights (Eb) and Moon over Miami (G)..

When Bob saw it he immediately said it was going to be used on the next TV series we're doing..

It's a 1963 Fender 400 custom order for a prominent player in Hawaii. My copedent is something that I worked out for myself..There were no instructional DVDs in those days and I hadn't got access to tutorials, so I invented my own copedent based on what I heard. I perceived what was needed to get those sounds. Bear in mind I was listening to Hawaii Calls recordings with Jules Ah See, Billy Hew Len, Barney Isaacs, Sam Koki and Danny Stewart.

Thanks for that comprehensive info, Basil. I can't imagine what it must've been like, having to figure it all out from just listening to records. Mind boggling!
I'm currently getting my head round San Antone Rose and your live version, posted on the forum, is a great inspiration.

I wish you luck with that: I have a confession to make, I cheated.. For the first time in public I cut loose from the normal restraints and "Let Fly": one of the VERY few examples of me playing at 'Full Tilt'.. E13th front neck and B11th nearest.

As I've said on various occasions very few people have any idea of what Pat and I can do..
Almost all of my albums and 99.9% of the videos are very much below par compared to what we do at home..I'm probably not satisfied with ANY that are heard or seen, but feel compelled to post them, even though they are sub standard, just to outline Pat's capability. I feel she's unbelievably underrated and not acknowledged half enough for what she does and can do !

Just watch her in this, her pause on the A Augmented seventh flat five flat ninth is psychic. (A7+b9b5) I doubt there's many here even know the chord. We play it like this: Pat plays A7+b5b9, the bass plays A and I play Eb9b5 with the b5 on top..

Hi Basil,
I was at that performance and fully endorse the appreciation on Donny's face, no mean player himself, it was superb playing from you, Pat and Rosemary. It was my first attendance at the Festival and I was blown away by the skills of the players.
But back to your original post. I'm in New Zealand visiting family and using my iPad and I can't seem to listen to the links you posted.
How can I listen to them?

......it's funny how one man's sub standard is another man's impossible dream!

I feel she's unbelievably underrated and not acknowledged half enough for what she does and can do !

......Pat's playing is so complimentary, solid and swinging. She's the Freddie Green of the Count Basil Big Band.
