Beginner question

Where is a good place to start if one is interested in getting a Pedal Steel guitar and learning from square one? Been thinking about getting into this instrument as I absolutely love the sound and think it's amazing.

Hi Ramiro,

Assuming you live in the UK a good place to start is by talking to John Davis here on the forum, he is the most likely person to have an affordable secondhand pedal steel to start you off and will give you great advice.

If you can afford to buy new, the only place that stocks them, to my knowledge, is Promenade music in Morcambe https://www.promenademusic.co.uk/guitar-department/pedal-steel-guitars/

If money is an object, consider buying a lap steel and seeing if you get the bug. None of your time will be wasted since all the skills are transferable.

If you are looking for a teacher, search this forum for a local one or consider remote/online lessons. I offer beginner pedal steel lessons if you are in the London area and have a pedal steel you can rent.

YouTube and subscription lessons are useful but I think the Bruce Bouton dvd and the Winnie Winston/Bill Keith book are still hard to beat for starters and easy to find.

Best of luck!
Jonathan
