Like you say, John, "Buddy and Albert", absolutely the best, and I never knew Gerry was so hot on the 6 string. That was a very enjoyable 90 mins. Thank you.

I had previously encountered an MCI, beautifully restored by Bob Adams, at Gartcosh(hope you're well,Tony Totten!), and very nice it was, too. Although I assumed that the 'E' stood for Emmons, it piqued my curiosity as to Buddy's involvement in the company and I came across this 18 year old thread on the Steel Guitar Forum......

Well reading that old USA forum thread, I was amazed to read Earnest Bovine's evaluation on the EMCI tonal qualities as being "crap"! He needed his ears syringing. I've played several EMCI pedal steels, and they all sounded wonderful. Sustain for days, especially above the 12th fret, which is the true test for any pedal steel. I had one of the predecessors, the MCI, and it had marvelous tone. Buddy's tone on that recording of Slim's didn't sound none too shabby, but then again he could play a Bentley and make it sound great.
Incidentally, MCI stands for Murell Communications Incorporated).
Bud Carter left MCI in April '85, and shortly afterwards MCI became EMCI due to Buddy Emmons involvement. I believe that Gene Fields had something to do with the MCI/EMCI family.
