Thank You America

Postby Gary James Peters » Thu Nov 12, 2020 10:15 am

Hi All

In these strange (and often dark) times, I, like millions of others around the world, have been glued to the US networks in anticipation and dread. In spite of everything, I was reminded of how indebted I am to American musical culture in everything I have done throughout my life both as a consumer and producer of music. I was thinking of posting some examples of what I mean as a token of my gratitude: here then are my versions of two classic American songs. It's also my first attempt to use Marc's Soundcloud embed technique...so if it fails you'll know why!!

Very nice and tasty, Gary. Totally imbued with the american influence, even the accent, and the fiddle adds a nice folky feel, too.
I must confess, I can't sing in my own accent, it feels very wierd and the end result is a sort of out of tune Pat Boon howling at the moon.
Thanks for posting, enjoyed both of them.

Thanks Danny (as always)

As you will no doubt know, Hey Joe is the musical accompaniment to chapter 18 of my last book (which I'm sure you've read by now!!)

As for the fiddle, that is the one instrument I could never get along with no matter how hard I tried (and I tried). So it is no longer to be heard on my recordings, 'cos I sold it in disgust. These two tracks are new re-mixes of things I recorded about 15 years ago...hence the dreaded fiddle.

But...kind of works, you're right.
