Slap Technique

Hi

Danny (I think?) remarked recently on a slap technique I sometimes use (being a guitarist this seemed quite natural), anyway, he's never seen it before, although I'm sure there are hundreds of people he or me don't know about doing just this (Robert Randolph?). Anyway, I thought I'd try and reproduce an improvisation over Stockhausen's Gruppen on my Soundcloud page, just to have a look at the slapping. Kind of works...but could/will do better. Have a look and see what you think.

And thanks all for listening/watching my stuff, it's nice to get just a little bit of attention for the first time!

Gary

Thanks Steve

If I could just cheer up a bit in front of the camera, I could be described as slap-happy...but in the meantime...I'll work on it: the smiling and the slapping!

Aye, it was me Gary, and as you were the first I'd seen, like a baby bird being imprinted, you'll forever be the No1 Steel Slapper. Much as, John Martyn was the first 6 string acoustic/electric slapper to catch my eye.
Robert Randolph! He's got so much going on, and the tightest backing band I've heard, that he really doesn't need to think about rhythmic underpinning, although I know it must be up his sleeve.
Your post was very cool, too. Thanks for taking the trouble.
Btw, Jimmy Raney was amazing, thanks for the heads up. I'd like to return that favour with something you may have not heard.

Specifically, the last tune, 'single petal from a rose', I think it's really beautiful, and it's screaming out for a version on steel.

Hi Danny

Apologies, but I did thank you for this video a couple of days ago but noticed this evening that it hadn't got through, maybe I forgot to 'submit'.

Anyway, I think/know I've seen some of this before, but can't remember how/why...maybe I saw it on another post by your good self? Anyway, will have another look
