DreamDay - An exploration using an Ebow on Pedal Steel

This track came about when I was experimenting with using an Ebow on Pedal Steel Guitar. There are two Pedal Steel parts, one is the backing and the other using the Ebow.

I used a Arp 2600 synth VST to produce the bass.

The video was created using an online program written to simulate the visualisation section of the Winamp audio player, a legendary Windows app. The creators of the app used in the video, have taken the concepts used in the Winamp visualiser and taken them a step further. The visualisation responds to the audio track, giving the visualisation movement in sync with the audio. It is an open source project with 60 contributors.

Backing music for a new Dr.Who series!! You will make a fortune if they take it.

Chance would be a fine thing John! Though I was contacted about a month ago by an independent film company who want me to compose a piece and perform it on their film later this year, after viewing some of my YouTube vids.

I am a big fan of the Dr Who tune, watched a programme a while back about the woman who composed it in the BBC Radiophonic Workshop. Way ahead of her time. I saw the band Orbital play the Dr Who theme live in the open theatre in Princess Street Gardens, Edinburgh, which was phenomenal coming out of a massive PA system.

Wow Geoff that’s way out man!,to me the elbow was a clever invention invented for the electric guitar and then Mr Emmons featured it on steel guitar,first tracks I heard was Mansion on the hill then Once upon a time in the west and since that many steel steel players have used it on their recording.
Your vid shows images I see every day due to macular in my eyes especially in low light at night, and when the hospital put the injection into the eye.but you have to live with that and just be happy that I have some sight left.

Sorry to hear about your eye problem, that must be awful. I have cataracts in both eyes caused by the chemo, they are still at a fairly early stage but at my last checkup the optician put me on the list for removal, the waiting time is at least a year! I now have one eye that is short sighted and the other long sighted, so I need 2 prescriptions, one for reading, the other for driving. I have to get a new prescription every year now. What you have sounds much worse, as you say we have to make the most of what we still have, I can relate to that regarding what I can and cannot do these days.

I'm a big fan of the Ebow, I've had one since the 80's, initially for use with guitar, but they work brilliantly with pedal steel. Much easier to control on the horizontal, than the vertical. I started a project last year with the idea of a variation on the Ebow for Pedal Steel, which would essentially cover multiple strings, the plan was for a 6 string ebow with a couple of touch switches on each Ebow, one to toggle it on or off, the other to toggle between normal and harmonic mode.

As my health limits me and I have other projects on the go, it's kinda come to a halt at the moment, but I hope to pick it up again at some point.

I am aware that this video is not what a lot of folks on this site are interested in, it's definitely not Country, but I like to mix things up. I've never felt restricted to one style of music, I enjoy doing a lot of different stuff. I've just finished a version of Althea, which is a Grateful Dead song, written by Jerry Garcia and Robert Hunter, which is much more of a conventional style, (I even subject the listener to my dulcet tones ). I put it up on the Deadheads forum and it is going down well, I use PS on sections of it. Still, to produce a video to go with it.
