May You Never

Postby Jif » Mon Oct 27, 2025 11:47 pm

With the unfortunate passing of Danny Thompson recently, I've been getting a lot of his stuff coming up on YouTube suggestions. Came across this one tonight, love this song, I think this is the best version I've heard, and I've heard a lot.

Some fine Dobro playing just puts the icing on the cake.

I agree Geoff, lovely version of a great song, excellent dobro playing as usual from Jerry Douglas.
RIP Danny Thompson.

Brilliant DB player, using the bow on the end note was a touch of class. I didn't know who the Dobro player was, he wasn't mentioned in the blurb, thanks for the info. Jerry Douglas, will need to check him out. According to Mr Google, he is rated as one of the best Dobro players around, going by his playing, it's not far from the truth.

The first time I saw John Martyn was when he was still playing the College circuit, think it was 1972. I was visiting my sister, she was at Uni in Reading, and by chance John Martyn did a gig when I was there. Was impressive, I think Danny was with him at that time, but my memory is pretty hazy these days
