Why are there not more of us trying to help each other with a little bit of video on here ? Is it a technical issue like it takes up too much band width or something? they can always be deleted if that's the case..... or is it my personality defect that makes me not give a rat's arse if I make a complete fool of myself?? If that's the case you are all excused cos I can't do anything about that.... If you plug a camera into your computer it will ask you if you want to record live video it is that simple even I can do it......

Good point John, that's why I did the slow motion version of the "under your spell again" solo, to see how much interest it generated, answer, not much! That woodshed is a study of Ralph Mooney's technique in my opinion a valuable lesson in itself.

There is so much on you tube it's difficult to know what people want to learn about and what hasn't been covered already.

On a very positive note I played at the ramblin roots review festival yesterday with lisa Redford and it was great to see 5 or 6 young Uk steel players there playing in great original bands.

I think that learners such as myself suffer nowadays from a bit of an information overload - there is so much content (much of it absolutely excellent) on this forum, on youtube, on websites, on DVDs, etc. that it is hard to know where to start, and what to focus on.
For my two pennies' worth, I tend to progress more if I have a few simple things to learn and practise until I can do them well, then move on. But then I am a beginner and still getting to grips with the basics, so maybe I am not very representative of the general forum membership.

There is so much on you tube it's difficult to know what people want to learn about and what hasn't been covered already.

Alan, absolutely right. I wonder if a 'requests' thread on this forum may have some merit?

A big thanks to both of you, and everyone else who posts videos on the forum though - please don't mistake my lack of reply for a lack of interest; it just takes me a while to take all the information on board! Please keep 'em coming, and one day I may have something to contribute too

My 10 lesson approach to learning in order of importance:

1) how to set up the steel, amp, volume pedal and tuning.
2) right and left hand technique.
3) common string groups the A&B pedals and associated common scales and chords.
4) the D lever.and the associated common scales and chords.
5) the F lever.and the associated common scales and chords.
6) the x lever and the associated common scales and chords.
7) the second string lowers.and the associated common scales and chords.
8) the Nashville numbers system.
9) backup technique
10) building intros and solos (playing the melody)

I can barely use a computer, never mind uploading video and re-posting... Keith Glendinning knows all about this stuff. I'll see if I can get a lesson from him when we meet next Sunday.
We have all mod cons up here, you know, but we don't use electricity for heating. When it's really cold, we put a shirt on!
