it all sounds good to me Allan. the pedal steel parts sound varied and well executed, and they fit the songs well

the reviewer went into the article with an axe to grind as it was "I’m known to rant about the mediocrity seemingly endemic to the Americana genre ".

"Pedal steel notwithstanding, Bob Collum isn’t faux country," ah so pedal steel is a sign of faux country, thanks reviewer.. :?

"His songs are properly constructed with both verse and chorus" actually I think he's a bit simple ;)

Ego a bit bruised... but it's only a review, in fact quite a good one for the EP.
There's been a couple of others which have been quite steel friendly..

OK steel break over, where did I leave my picks...

My grandfather told me a long time ago that critics became critics because they couldn't do anything worthwhile with their lives.
I'm sure he'd have loved this guy. Notice how few of them identify themselves by name? I listened to the tracks and far from being overused IMHO it enhanced the songs nicely. Be proud Allen Be very proud. ;)

I bought this EP specifically to listen to the steel playing to make my own assessment. To me the steel sounds great and entirely appropriate throughout, which leaves me a bit puzzled and concerned about how people respond to steel guitar on recordings.

I too am working with a singer-songwriter and I would be happy to play with the same level of skill as can be heard on these songs. I realise there are some people who just don't like the sound of a steel, no matter who is or how it is being played, which is a real shame.

Agree totally Chris. The term for a bunch of critics here is a Scutter of A---holes.
